Horton's contract wasn't insurable so the insurance company will not pay for it!

Worse, it was insurable the summer he was signed, Columbus chose not too and then was hurt before the season started...at that point it was no longer insurable...so stupid Lumbus. But you are correct, that is why he was traded for that lump Clarkson...at least he can play for his $$.

He should just retire, but he won't, why throw away money?!?! Why do you think M.Savard or C.Pronger haven't retired. Retire = cancelled contract (ie: Kovalchuk) = no money. He will be on LTIR until his last year I would bet.

MLSE has oceans of money. They do not care about the cost. They are keen to be able to put him on the LTIR every year until the contract expires. They couldn't do that with Clarkson.

Columbus gets a skater for their money. Toronto gets to get rid of Clarkson and pay Horton on the side. Classic win-win.
