Harding; any new info?

I just acquired him for a prospect (B. Sanguinetti) in hopes that some updates would surface eventually. I've been searching around and I've yet to see any conclusive news in regards to his health and future.

I must decide to keep him or drop him by June 20th. Since I got him for close to nothing as I said, it's not the end of the world if I have to drop him, but I figured the payout would be great if he would give it one last shot (and if an NHL team would be willing to give him a try). I think the second part will happen but I'm not sure if it's already too late...


Any real sources out there or updates?

There was plenty of talk about it a couple weeks ago, but I don't think it's officially happened yet.

I saw a report that he would probably retire but only saw quotes from the Wild GM on the subject. Nothing official from Harding himself.

Ya same here. Does anyone know of his situation back in the AHL this year. I know he played a couple of games, but why was it only 2? Was he resting, on the bench, not on the roster or just plain not feeling good enough to play?

I know as much as when the Wild sent him down. Afterwards is a mystery to me and I can't seem to find relavant sources in regards to this.

He was not healthy enough to play all season asides from the 2 games. All indications are that he will retire this summer at some point.

Fletcher and Mike Russo have both said so, Harding is not cited directly. But if those two don't know what's going on, it would be a surprise to me. Russo is a very connected and careful writer.

On the other hand, even if Harding had been quoted he could still change his mind and try to hang on just a bit longer.

At 27 years of age I wouldn't call Sanguinetti a prospect any more so I think this trade ends up being a wash with each GM receiving a player who will add nothing to your rosters.

Hehe, that's how I saw it as well. But he only has 40-something NHL games under his belt so he is still considered a "prospect" in our league.

I think this is a good trade for you if Harding ever decides (is able to) play again. Sang does nothing for you or the other team, so Harding was basically a free add. You can always drop him in a year or trade him to someone else who has high hopes.

Well the only downside to the trade was that Sanguinetti was considered a prospect in my format (less than 80 NHL games played) and that Harding had to count as one of my 20 keepers.

Since I have to submit my keepers by June 20th, I figured it would give me about a month to see if anything happens in his case. Worst case, I drop him on the 20th (because I already have 20 guys I want to keep; my only drop from my signature below other than Harding will be B. Richards).

Should Harding show signs of potentially playing next year (i.e. he says there's a chance, a team signs him, ...), I will most likely attempt a 2vs1 trade to free up a spot (i.e. package Boychuk and Streit for a slightly better D).
