My Klingberg for his Trouba and Mantha?

For the league in sig, I received this offer....Even if it's 2 for 1, I wouldn't have to drop someone since we can have 5 players in our farm and I'm missing one....

I like it too and I'm a Klingberg groupy. Trouba loses some value for me in points-only leagues but Mantha more than makes up the difference as a throw-in.

In points only, Kling is (and will remain) a much better producer than Trouba... but adding a player like Mantha evens out the difference in my eyes. To me, the decision rests in how much you value Mantha. If he's a guy you really want, I think this deal is a good one. If he's just another "prospect" in your eyes, then I'd hesitate to pull the trigger since Kling>Troubs by a decent amount in points-only. (Full transparency - I don't value Trouba the way many others do in this format)

I would take this. I like Dallas as a potential landing spot for Mike Green, which would hurt Kling a fair amount. Trouba is a solid player, but his upside is limited to what the Jets decide to do with Byfuglien. That's worth the gamble, simply because he would still be movable if all else fails. Mantha, I'm pretty high on, but I'm still constantly trying to find out more about him. However, since you don't need to rely on any of these players, I'm taking this as a decent sell high.

The way I see it ...

Klingberg:
Immediate upside - (40-55) next year
Long-term upside - (44-62) 2 years and beyond

Trouba:
Immediate upside - (30-42) next year
Long-term upside - (40-56) 2 years and beyond

Mantha:
Immediate upside - (0) he's 1-2 years away unless he is lights-out in camp or takes another step back, then adjust accordingly
Long-term upside - (55-75) beginning with his 2nd year in the NHL

So long-term, I think this is a rock solid deal, especially considering you can stash Mantha. Next year though, you'll be second-guessing yourself if Klingberg scores 53 points and Trouba doesn't break 35 while Mantha stews in Grand Rapids.

Usually in 2 for 1's, you have a player that is less good than the lone one and the other one is the filler or kicker that helps equal it out.

In this case, both D's are comparable, even though 1 had a hot start and the other struggled at some times last year. Mantha, though, is one hell of a kicker to help swing the deal in your favor.

Maybe Klingberg is better this coming season while the Jets sort out their crowded D, but Trouba has a lot of talent that will rise up eventually. Mantha more than makes up whatever difference there is.

I'd do this too, but man, I have to point out that Mantha is crazy-overrated in these forums. Not sure if he's as elite as people view him. He has a long way to go before he's helping poolies and by then there will be a dozen new players in his mold.
