Default Hitchcock back for 1 year in STL

Ken Hitchcock will be back behind the bench in St. Louis for the 2015-16 season.
Coach Hitchcock has signed a a one-year contract with the Blues after his future with the club was cloudy following another short playoff appearance. St. Louis has been incredibly successful during the regular season under Hitchcock, but he's won just one playoff series in four seasons.

Exactly. Playoff bound and favored to win it until they promptly exit in the first round.

I wonder if the one year extension was his choice or the Blues?

Jeez, why would he? I'd sure be looking for a ticket out of Arizona if I were in his shoes.

I'm quite surprised that he would say no to STL. Hitchcock was being strung along until they were sure that Tippet was no longer in play. I'm wondering if ARZ offered him more money and longer term with input on personnel decisions?

I'm guessing it was the Blues. If Hitchcock was debating retiring in the near future he could always sign a longer deal and simply retire before it expires should he win a Cup, the flip is if he signs for 2 or 3 years and gets fired next season he still gets paid. I can't say I recall a situation where a returning coach was signed to a 1-year contract. To me this deal reeks of the Blues having very little confidence in Hitchcock and knowing he will not be back if the doesn't go deep in next years playoffs. To me the deal says the Blues didn't really want to re-sign him but they couldn't find a better option so they gave him the absolute minimum, if the Blues have any cold stretch next season he can be fairly cheaply axed.

One year contracts don't seem practical for anyone involved - coach, player, organization.

Hitch is a lame duck coach. I fully expect tune-out by March if the Blues hit some bumps. Either agree on a 2-year deal or separate. I'm with you Bomm, not a fan of the 1 year dealio.

Agreed that the one-year deal is a bit weird. STL didn't find a suitable replacement I guess.

He's getting $5 mil cash and the balance in prime rib.

    Wait, are "fat jokes" permitted?
