Salary Cap and Team Layout

Each manager will have two teams to manage. An NHL roster (one that is used in Yahoo) and a Minor league team (for prospects)

Salary Cap

The salary cap will be a floating cap $20 million above the NHL cap. (ie. if the NHL cap is $60 million, our cap will be $80 million.) Since the NHL cap seemingly changes year in and year out, our cap will change as well. This league will also have a salary cap floor of the NHL cap minus $10 million. (so again, if it were $60 mill in the NHL, our floor would be $50 million)

NHL Roster:

The NHL team (whose name will be of an NHL franchise) will consist of 4 centres, 4 right wings, 4 left wings, 6 defencemen, 2 goalies, and 4 bench spots (of which you may fill whatever positions you want). Your team must have each roster spot filled at all times (you may not dress only 5 d men or have 1 goalie, etc). All 4 bench spots must be filled. At no point are you to have NA players (players that are not in an active role on a NHL team). The only exception for this is suspended players, they do not apply to this rule.

At no point may your team be over the salary cap during the NHL season. During the offseason, however, you may be over the cap to deal with re-signing players, transactions, etc. There will be a date set every year, near the end of the offseason, that your team will have to become in compliance with the salary cap (typically will be at the end of September)

Your roster will be a total of 24 players. Injured players (that are on the IR in Fantrax) do not count towards this total nor do they count towards the salary cap.

Minor League Roster:

The minor league roster will be consisting of players that you have drafted via the dispersal draft, entry draft, and free agency signings. The roster limit will be 30 players in the inaugural season and will increase to 35 players in the offseason following the first season (2015)

Players on the the minor team will be to have a cap hit no higher than 1.75 million per year. There are a few exceptions for this however.

Players that are under 150 games for forwards and defence, 50 games for a goalie, in the NHL do not apply to this rule. (ie. a prospect that is under an entry level deal that exceeds 1.75 million and has only played less than 150 games may be on the minor league team without penalty.) Once a player has played in his 151st game or 51st as a goalie, he must be either called up to the NHL roster or else released. You will have 1 week from the time he reaches this milestone for the player to be dealt with. Any player that has exceeded the 151st/51st milestone and hasnt been dealt with will be considered waived and will be placed on waivers for the league.

The second exception will be each team will be allowed to have 2 players that are over the 150/50 game limit and over the 1.75 waiver cap hit on each teams minor team. To call these players up does not require waivers, but if you wanted to send the player from your NHL team to your minor team, and your team has room for an over-waiver player, he will require waivers.

To be clear. If a player has exceeded the 150/50 games played mark but has a contract under 1.75 million, said player is eligible for minor league team as well

Entry drafts after year 1 and every year after.

The order will be determined partially by the standings at the end of the regular season. However the 1st overall pick will be awared to the winner of the consolation playoff bracket. This will be a bracket filled with the bottom 8 (9-16). This is a way to help mitigate tanking for 1st overall. The winner of this will gain 1st overall pick with their 1st round pick. 2nd overall will go to the lowest regular season finisher. (eg. if the 11th place team in the regular season wins the bracket, he will be awared 1st overall. 16th overall in regular season will be 2nd, 15th overall will be 3rd overal, so on and so forth). This will allows competition all year round for all teams but also doesnt completely punish rebuiding teams.

For the teams making the playoffs, your draft spots will be determined by when they exit the playoffs. In the first round, 4 teams will be eliminated. They will be 9th - 12th overall. Out of the 4 teams eliminated, the team with the worst regular season record will get 9th overall, 2nd worst gets 10th overall, and so on.

The entry draft will be 7 rounds each year.

Scoring

In a Head-to-Head League, your team squares off in a weekly matchup against another team to see who can compile the best stats across a number of different categories.

A new weekly matchup begins every Monday and consists of a set number of games based on your league's statistical categories. Each stat category counts as one game, with the win going to the team that finishes the week with the highest total in that category (the cumulative total after each Sunday's games).

So, if in a given week, your team scores more goals than your opponent's, you would be credited with a victory. However, if your opponent's team ended the week with a better GAA than your team, you would be charged with a loss. If the two teams end up tied in a given category, each receives credit for a tied game.

This weekly win-loss total is added to a cumulative season record where each win counts for 1 WIN (2 points), each tie counts for one point, and each loss counts for none. The total of these points is used to determine standings and playoff seedings.

The scoring system will include:

Offense - G, A, P, +/-, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, SOG, BLK, FOW, and HIT

Goaltending - W, SV%, GAA, SVS Made

The more categories a team wins, the more Wins the team accumulates. There are 16 cats altogether so a team can win up to 16 games. So if in a week you win 10 categories, tie 2 and lose 4, your record will be 10-4-2 for that week and your team will have earned 22 points.

Prize Structure

$75 of that will be put into the regular season portion in Fantrax

prize payouts will be as such

1st place regular season - $600
2nd place regular season - $400
3rd place regular season - $200

The other $25 goes into the playoffs for the Fantrax playoffs. This will be for the top 8 teams from the regular season

1st place playoffs - $200
2nd place playoffs - $125
3rd place playoffs - $75

The fees will be collected via leaguesafe.com. The payouts will be made available once the season has concluded. (likely about a week after the end of the year)

Refunds will not be issued unless there is an extreme case. We want all managers to be committed to the league and dont want managers quitting over sour grapes and expecting their money back.
