Interesting predicament for sure. I don't think there's any doubt who's going 1st overall in the real draft and the real question is how close in talent Eichel will be. I think he's a tad below McDavid but just how far is too hard to call right now. I don't think anyone will really know until a few years of playing in the NHL.

Honestly, I think it's a very fair offer for McDavid but I would probably keep McDavid as well. The rest of the picks should also turn out to be very good NHL players (assumption of course but this is considered an excellent draft class) but there's always that gamble.

I don't envy your position here.

I don't want to take anything away from Eichel as he would be an easy #1 overall pick in many draft years but I don't think he's generational while I feel McDavid is. I think the media did an excellent job making some porous believe that there was an actual doubt as who would go #1 this year. I know at one point about a year ago or so there were stories of some GMs ranking Eichel higher but I haven't heard as much of that talk as we near the draft. I highly doubt that any one of the 30 teams in the NHL have Eichel ahead of McDavid.

It's quite easy to say McDavid, but that team is seriously hurting. If you can get a couple of the other teams drops who are legitamite keepers... Then come back and post again.

Don't get me wrong I also believe that McDavid is going to be better then Eichel, however you'd be able to get some pretty strong players at 6th and 9th this year. Does the addition of two additional top prospects compensate for the drop from McDavid to Eichel? I'm not sure it's that clear cut.

If you are a contender in the next year or two, I'd go with McDavid.

If you are looking at a few years down the road, 2nd, 6th, and 9th gives McDavid a run for his money. I'd ask for a cherry on top of 2nd, 6th, and 9th if you want to go that way.

really? this is the first year i thought the media actual didn't bother trying to make a debate as to who would go first overall. mcdavid is handsdown the #1 pick, the gap between him and eichel is pretty big. whereas in previous years they tried to make the controversey (taylor vs tyler, tavares vs hedman etc)

I'd think about it this way, once you draft McDavid you will be able to get way more than that for him in my opinion. McDavid for me.

I would rather have McDavid. It's hard predicting if those two extra picks will even end up in the NHL in a few years.

McDavid should be a great player. Build around him.
