Default Josh Bailey - He may be set to have a career year next season

Player Name GP GLS Asts Pts Pts/G +/- PIM Shts Hts PPG PPP SHP Blks PPTOI %PP %SH TOI %TOI
    BAILEY, JOSH 66 15 23 38 0.58 3 12 133 61 2 4 0 30 01:40 31.6 3.5 16:51 27.6

Josh Bailey, the former 1st round pick 9th overall highly touted offensive prospect, was ruined by being brought up too early and not given a chance to grow his overall game at a proper level. He has struggled with that very issue in the NHL being an offensive force while being responsible defensively. For that reason he hasn't gotten over 40 points in a season. His junior career started slowly gathering only 87 points in the first four seasons. His final year he put on a clinic getting 96 points in 67 games played. This shows that once he adjusted to the league he finally could use his offensive skills to full effect, now in his ninth pro season he has become the two way forward he needs to be to survive in today’s NHL. Look for him to break out and get close to 60 points next season with the now threat for a Stanley cup that is the Islanders.
His points-per-game has steadily grown in the last five years showing great offensive progression, very much like his junior numbers. Take a look at his shot numbers: 102 in 2010/11, 104 in 2011/12, 76 in 2012/13, 98 in 2013/14, and 133 in 2014/15. He needs to continue to fire the puck at net to have success at the NHL level. It’s no surprise Bailey has set a career high in goals this season his shot totals went up by 35. His power-play usage has curiously gone down over the last five years: 2010/11 2:24 PP TOI, 2011/12 1:13 PP TOI, 2012/13 1:17 PP TOI, 2013/14 1:49 PP TOI, 2014/15 1:40 PP TOI. Hopefully he can play his way into a a consistent number 1/2 situation where he gets close to two power-play minutes a game.

Good two-way player, who is playing the best hockey of his career. But, he's not a center and he won't ever score 60 points without playing with Tavares and #1 PP time for a full season. He will be an effective player no matter where he plays, but the points will only come if he is put in an offensive role.

    yeah I agree with 27blue .

the isles love JB but his fate is going to be on the defensive forward side of the roster with point totals pretty much where they're at 35-40'ish

I agree he is going to be used alot in the defensive zone, i just think if he is given the power-play time with Tavares he could produce close to 60 points, it is completely feasable in the next two seasons while some of the high end prospects are still developing; after which he will become a two way 40-50 point 3rd liner.

After eight seasons, I think we have seen what Bailey can offer. Good player, but I doubt he puts up 60+ pts.

I dont agree i think the amount of seasons can only help him offensively, heres some examples of good scorers who peaked later in their career:
Abdelkader - breakkout season was ninth pro season
Vrbata - 11th pro season, after many trades
Wheeler - 5th season break-out, common i admit but was given a offensive role and he capitalized
    Stafford - 6th pro season break-out
Franzen - 7 years in pro hockey until he hits his career high
Callahan - 8 years in pro hockey for career high 54, but he concentrates on hitting and leadership imo more then bailey which could feasably add 5 points or more to that total. most similarities between Bailey and Callahan imo compared to the rest of the examples.
