Kids first NHL Game
Hello all,
Taking my 3 boys 8, 10 and 12 to their first NHL game tomorrow in Buffalo. Any suggestions for a great game day experience?

I remember my 1st game with my dad, a bus trip to the Montreal Forum where he got in a fight on one of the cement ramps and we also watched Michel Goulet end his career by tripping on the goal line.
My dad didn't have to do that to make me love him - all I needed was hot dogs, pop, and a souvenir (whatever you can afford). Make sure you sit in the middle of them and engage them all. That's enough advice from me, I'm no Saint.

I remember my first NHL game. I'm still a pretty young guy, but I was around 8 when I saw my first one. The one thing that really stuck out was the random little facts my dad would say or point out players and explain little plays. I remember him explaining the goal Bourque scored on the PP and reasoning for passing, shot from the point etc and I thought it was the coolest thing. I was also shocked to find out that the little red light light was for when there was a commercial break. Kids are funny. They'll have a really good time regardless. I just remember watching the whole time in absolute wonder and having my dad narrate a couple things really added to the whole experience.

Man that will be fun event to do with the kids.
I'd recommend getting there early and watching warm-ups. The players usually take the ice 30-40 minutes in advance. Not many fans are there so you should be able to walk right down to the first few rows and get an up close look at your favourite players. If you get there attention or make them a sign they might toss your sons a puck or two. Great photo opportunity as well. It's pretty cool seeing how big the players are up close and most are pretty relaxed during warm-ups.

Go early like Law-man said. They’ll get flipped a puck for sure if you’re up near the glass. I still remember the first puck I got. I was prolly 8, it was during the Leafs warmup, against the panthers. Ponikarovsky flipped it over the glass and it landed right on my lap. Bad thing was I had a personal pizza on my lap. I looked up and he was speed skating away from our area lol. I have the puck still and it reminds me of that night every time I look at it
It was also Christmas and I had a sign that said “All I want for Christmas is a Leafs win”, my mom and I went for dinner at some deli restaurant and I got a montreal smoked meat sandwich and a strawberry shake. Kids literally remember the weirdest things.

Thanks all for the suggestions.
It was a great experience for all of us (my dad and my 3 sons) Went into the arena early had a bite to eat then headed down to the warm ups right at the glass. Took some pretty cool pictures and snagged a few of my boys watching the players. The Sabres wore green St Pattys jersey's for the warm up, sadly they switched for the game. A few pucks came over the boards although we did't get any, the boys got a few waves, winks and smiles.
Overall, awesome outing, I enjoyed watching the kids take it all in. Truly is an amazing game and experience.
