Some recent discussions got me wondering how diverse the Dobberhockey community actually was so I thought a poll might cast some light on things. If you feel up to it, please choose the option that you feel best describes you. Note: I am using the categorizations from the US Census so please take with a grain of salt, I appreciate that different countries often use different descriptors.

I'll go first. I usually describe myself as multiracial as I am 75% Caucasian and 25% Cherokee.

    100% white to my knowledge
Irish, welsh, and English background in my grandparents. And if you google my last name there was a Nazi scientist with the same one, and it’s a lesser known common German name if that makes sense. It’s not typical German sounding. We actually found out about it while looking through a Nazi Scientist book in a book store. Freaked me right out when I saw my last name in there.

So I say I’m Irish (2 GP Irish), then I comment on my other 2 (English and Welsh) and then say maybe German.

Wow that is a little creepy! You don't happen to work in a lab do you?

My family is mostly of English and Welsh descent too actually, some of the original settlers to the country if you go back far enough. And my grandad was full blown Cherokee and a really fascinating man, I wish I could have spent more time with him before he died.

    German, Polish, Russian

Can trace my Germany ancestry to coming to Virginia in the 1690s. Qualify to be a SAR. Always heard that my maternal great-grandfather and preceding generations were Russian nobility that had to flee due to the Bolshevik revolution.

Need to get the Ancestry.com login info from my family.

I had a co-op working at a Nuclear Fuel Cell simulators manufacture…pretty much it was a nickel tube with ceramic and thermocouples on the inside that would go into water, then they’d boil the water and the thermocouples would record data or something. I was just the guy who made them; I didn’t get into the science or the purpose of them. There was some radioactive material in the building tho, and it had a bit of a spill like 3 months before I got there lol.

Yeah that's the problem when people are from all over the world. I think "Native/American Indian" would suit that one though, just ignore the "American Indian" part and focus on the "Native" side of it

    Caucasian with English heritage.

My family came to Nova Scotia Canada from England in the late 1700's. The original home they built is still in the family. I can trace my family back to the Doomsday Book.

Another one from the British Isles (albeit a few generations ago...). I kind of figured this would be the general make up of this community.

I'm chinese but I'm about as white washed as they come.

While all my friends were at chinese school I was at baseball practice.

Unfortunately nowadays I kind of wish I had learned cantonese. Whenever I go to a chinese restaurant and try to order things the waiters and waitresses laugh in my face.

My wife is Chinese, and she doesn't use it much, mostly with her family (her grandmother speaks no English, and her parents have thick accents). But she now she always wishes she had stayed in Chinese school for a little longer and knew a little more Chinese.

As for me, I'm as Canadian Caucasian as far back as my aunts and uncles have been able to find (I've had relatives on both sides of my parents family trace their roots back). I always wish we knew exactly where we were from. It'd be nice to say my ancestors were from Ireland, or England, or where ever.
