    Default Goalie Prospects

In a deep dynasty league (not the team in my sig) and am looking to add a Goalie to my team. Players like Gibson, Vasilevskiy, Allen, Lehner, Mrazek are already taken and not available. I am not that high on the Markstrom or Subban (but could be convinced) - and need to go deeper. I would like the "Dobber" Experts thoughts on a Goalie that will emerge in the next 2-5 years that might be worth the risk.

    Thanks!

I think Subban is a great goalie to add in most dynasty formats. He combines big upside with being partially developed already. Wait time isn't as long as with junior goalies.

Another that comes to mind is Grubauer who should be up next year as Holtby's backup.

Connor Hellebuyck is probably my favorite goalie prospect after Vasilevski, Gibson and Mrazek.

    Totally agree with this.

I would add Jon Gillies - great goalie who has continued to do great. Linus Ullmark was SHL goalie of the year last year. This year he has not been that good but he should be coming to North America next season and with Buffalo not having anyone long-term, he could be the future guy there as the team will start to improve. Another one is Juuse Saros who has been amazing in Finland.

    Magnus Hellberg - NSH

A goalie I have always liked is Andrey Makarov (Buf), his numbers have dipped this year after starting out strong, but this is his first pro year so he can improve.

I agree on Grubauer, except they still have Peters signed for one more year after this, so him being Holtby's back up may not happen quite yet.

Tristan Jarry is another one. Matt Murray also. Both are behind Fleury in Pittsburgh for awhile but they're good prospects.

A lot of these goalie prospects are actually better trade bait than they are fantasy prospects. Regardless of how talented they might be, there's only two goalies per NHL team and one starting gig. Pretty difficult to get a true return on investment from the majority of these guys.

100% agree with you ericdaoust. But this is why Hellebuyck is one of my favorite goalie prospect. Call me crazy but I don't trust Pavelec and Hutchinson as a #1 NHL goalie and I think Hellebuyck will have the chance to be the Jets starter in the next 2 years.

Hellebuyck and Ortio are my favorites. Look for Ortio to steal the #1 gig in CGY next year. He's imo in the same line as Gibson and Vasilevskiy.

I don't like crowning goalie prospects especially when they haven't even made the NHL yet. Even when the path looks clear the team can still go outside the organization for help. Remember that the goalie FA market is always flooded. More talented goalies available than there are NHL spots. As an example, I can see Niemi signing in Winnipeg this summer if he does not re-up with the Sharks.
