Toronto Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis will be in Manchester, NH on Friday night which has led to plenty of speculation that he's scouting Mike Richards.
While Nonis could certainly be looking at anyone on the Monarchs and/or Portland Pirates, indications seem clear that he's interested in possibly acquiring the 29-year-old, two-time Cup Champion. He'll ding the cap at $5.75 million through the end of the decade.

i have no issues with this. logically speaking, nonis didnt make a move for richards earlier because LA wouldn't take back salary. i'm assuming LA is willing to do that now that there are no takers for richards. so if Nonis thinks richards can still play he will make a trade for him.
again this is assuming nonis isn't stupid and is now willing to give up a good asset when he could have had richards for free.

Lol... I doubt Nonis really needs to watch (a probably sulking) Richards play in the AHL. If I'm not mistaken, Nonis lives down in that area... could be wrong, but I really doubt the Leafs are seriously interested in a guy like Mike Richards and the cap repercussions that come along with him. If Shanahan allows a deal to go through that involves Richards coming to Toronto, well the Leafs are just totally ****ed.

If LA wasn't willing to take on salary before, I don't see why they would take it on now. it's not like months have passed to make them reconsider.
