Backstrom / Huberdeau for RyJo / Shatty

It's for an auction league, but the cap hits aren't overly important as they weigh out.

RyJo / Shatty - are 2016 contracts.

Huberdeau is farm so has a 3 year contract once brought up, and Backstrom has 3 years left.

Stats are G, A, +/-, PIM, PPP, Shots, GWG.

I'm in the middle of the pack, so not contending this year, but I never like throwing in the towel, so want to make a deal to improve me this year but not too much down the road.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

I'm lukewarm on the deal, but RyJo is at our league minimum so for next year is a huge benefit.

I like the deal for you. No FW makes the difference between Backstrom and Johansen minimal and I like Shattenkirk over Huberdeau. He would be a good addition to your D core.

I prefer Ryjo and Shatty, but the contracts make this tougher. Would that mean you lose both guys at the end of next year or you just have to sign them to new contracts?

Shattenkirk is good, but this is the wrong time to buy him. 24 of his 39pts are powerplay points. 61% of his points are on the man advantage, and an average for defensemen should be 40%. Many Fantasy GMs determine a defensemens repeatability in points from year to year is their even strength points. Even strength points should be what GMs look at. If a D can get even strength points in 2014-15 season, he has a much higher chance of repeating that in 2015-16. Another way to see repeatability is their PPG compared to PPA. Only 4 of his 24PPP are goals, which is pretty low for that amount of PPP.

I like the trade for this yr, but next yr Shattenkirk has a pretty low chance at repeating what he’s done this yr.

Yeah, this is what I'm worried about with Shattenkirk. Essentially he offsets the loss of Backstrom for A and PPP, but Backstrom does it every year... can Shatty really keep it up.

I lose them back to the auction process at the end of 2016. You can keep them as RFA's, but others can bid and you can match, and they count towards your 15 keepers, so their cap hits will likely go up.

Thanks for the help so far, seems like people have similar assessments. Great for this year, but losing out on the long term excellent contracts I have in Backstrom / Hubs might not be enough... especially if I'm not in contention. More to keep pondering...
