    Default McDavid comparasion

During Christmas Eve, after may beers and wine, we had a lot of great hockey discussions. We also talked about junior hockey and McDavid. Some guys of my family compare him to players, like Toews, I told them they were out of track... My brother even told us that he will be better than Gretzky!! ).

Fun discussions, but I'm interest to know were he stands compare to all NHL players (ative or not)...

the McDavid hype machine tends to get a little crazy sometimes......many say hes the next crosby......highly doubt it.....to compare McDavid to Gretzky is pure insanity.....Crosby isnt even as good as Gretzky...The Great one and Mario Lemieux were beyond next level.....players like this are very few and FAR between...

I suspect McDavid is closer to a Nathan MacKinnon than Crosby......

all that said what really matters is where he lands.....think Hall/Seguin....IF Seguin had landed in EDM you can bet your botton $$ that he would not even be close to the player he is today.......Seguin fell ass backwards into a 'stacked' Boston Team thanks to the make be leaves......Seguin was able to learn and mature in an environment in which he was protected......having Lucic and Chara on your team helps....Hall was thrown to the wolves and his career will only recover once he gets out of the armpit known as EDM......EDM used thier draft picks on soft players and surrounded them with soft vets......

If McDavid ends up in EDM???? it wont be pretty.......McDavid needs to pull a Lindros and refuse to go if EDM drafts him.....his career depends on it.....at least if McDavid ends up in BUF or CAR hes got a shot.....McDavid will need to be surrounded by solid vets in order to succeed as he doesent strike me as a 'tough' player....NHL isnt the OHL......Yakupov found out in a hurry....

please dont reply to this thread with Stamkos....TB had St.Goals and solid vets...EDM quite possibly could be the worst team in the NHL history because they are soft like hot butter and no FA's want to play there......I bet J Schultz wish he had a do over....what a fool to pick EDM, his advisors should be ashamed....

I expect a little less than Tavares style #s from McDavid in his first 3 years....

From a numbers perspective, I'd expect Tavares-like numbers from him in his first few seasons. I do think he has Crosby type potential, but where he lands will have a big impact on if he can meet that potential. If I were him, I'd be hoping for Carolina. He has some good offensive players to play with there, Staal brothers, Skinner and Lindholm (Who I think is going to be real good). I hope for his sake he doesn't end up in EDM, that franchise is a disaster from top to bottom.

I know the hype machine is in full gear but I don't think it is that different from the Crosby hype machine at the same time. For me, Crosby hasn't lived up to the hype yet either. He is the best player in the NHL but not by the mile he was suppose to be.

I think he'll be closer to Malkin - kid has got the size, skill and speed. I think he will be more careful and less injury prone - which will lead to bigger numbers (depending on what team he ends up on and his supporting cast).

The thing is that the league has transformed over the last 10 years. Players are getting faster and developing similar skill sets.

Skill and hockey IQ wasn't as big a thing back in Greztky's day which is why he was so ahead of his time - let alone the fact that defensemen weren't half as good as they are today and goalies were only half as big in the net.

The days of players dominating the way he did are long gone. And as the years go by we'll be seeing more parity on the scoring leaders page.

That being said, all signs point toward Sid passing on the torch to McDavid a few years from now.

A previous generation, but thoughts on a potential Joe Sakic like career? Noticeably over a ppg, fantastic leader, always right near the top of the stats leaderboards, great goal scorer but better playmaking skills. Size wise they are fairly similar compared to their peers. Sakic: 5'11, 187. McDavid: 6'1, 185 (for now).

That would be a pretty damn good career of it was like Sakic.

Malkin is like 6'3-6'4... McDavid is what... 6'1 AT MAX? I think it's not fair to him to be compared to a much bigger player.

I think McDavid will be... McDavid. He's his own player, with a rare combination of speed, skill and hardwork that's only seen in superstar (read : Crosby).

I know everyone is hating on Edmonton, but let's be real if the Oilers land McDavid they will definitely become the powerhouse we all expect them to be.

A 1-2 punch at center of McDavid and RNH will be amazing. After drafting McDavid they could trade Eberle-Drasaitl for a couple of D.
