Vladimir Tkachev gets cut from Russia's WJ team

Quebec Remparts forward Vladimir Tkachev has been cut from Russia’s roster for the 2015 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Russia cut five players from its team today and Tkachev was among the cuts.

Tkachev, who joined the Remparts via trade with Moncton on Dec. 8, currently has two goals and four points in three games with his new squad. In 16 games with the Wildcats and Remparts this season, the 19-year-old, Omsk, Russia native has six goals and 20 points.

He was originally drafted by Moncton 39th overall in the 2013 CHL Import Draft and was invited to Edmonton Oilers’ rookie camp this summer.

Ivan Barbashev is the lone QMJHLer listed on Russia’s roster.

Russia opens the tournament Dec. 26, 2014 against Denmark at 1 p.m. EST from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ont.

Thats the sad part of russian hockey federation. Its all political and they will throw their own citizens under the bus because they went over to north america to play. Best example is socchi when Ovechin and malkin were put onto the third line and not allowed to be in the shoot out against the USA. Instead they used Kolvolcuk over and over because they wanted a KHL player to score the winning goal and not a NHL player.

Such a shame a country full of good players, but held back because of politics.

The fact that Nikita Scherbak isn't on that team is just laughable. I wish they end up in the relegation stage.
