Default Potential Trade: MacKinnon + for Tarasenko & T. Johnson

I'm fourth of seven in my keeper league, might be a little bit too far behind to catch up to the number one guy who offered me this:

My Vladimir Tarasenko, Tyler Johnson and Sami Vatanen for his Nathan MacKinnon, Nazem Kadri and T.J. Brodie.

I know I'm giving up a lot of good players who are playing excellent right now. But MacKinnon is going to be a star....

    What should I do?

    Details in signature.

Don't make that move. Mackinnon will be a star, but Tarasenko is already a star. Tyler Johnson & Vatanen are extremely valuable pieces too. I'm high on Mackinnon, but I think you'd be losing this deal big time.

Hold on to what you have. Tarasenko will be huge. I think better than MacKinnon if not, then the same.

The rest of the deal is not good for you

Wow, Tarasenko love has got quite big. I would take Mackinnon here. You said yourself that you probably can't catch up and win so take the player with the better upside, which I still believe is Mackinnon. I still believe Mackinnon will be a top 5 fantasy player real soon. A slow sophomore year isn't changing that for me.

Tarasenko is getting love for good reason.

    37 points in 33 games.
    20 goals & 17 assists.
    +18, 11 PPP's, and 118 shots.

I'm not saying MacKinnon won't be a beast, and maybe an all around better scorer. But it's not going to be far enough apart to warrant giving away Tyler Johnson & Sami Vatanen. If this was a partial keeper, I could see doing the deal, but no way in a full keeper.

Ya he is having a good start to the year but I see his upside somewhere around Kessel. A nice 80 point goal heavy player. Whereas Mackinnon is more of the 100 point threat. Johnson and Vatanen are good but I would give them up to get Mackinnon.

I have to disagree with you, Matt. Agree about the Tarasenko valuation, but I don't see Mackinnon as a 100 point threat in his career. Tank = 70 to 80 pt guy. Mackinnon = 76-86 pt guy, in my opinion.

So, in a vacuum, I prefer Mackinnon. But giving up T. Johnson and Vatanen makes this a lot tougher. Ugh, tough to say.

Come on. Let us be real here. How many 100 point players exist at this time. Not many if any at all.

Mackinnon is better than Tarasenko, although not by much.

Johnson and Vatanen blow Kadri and Brodie out of the water.

    I'd keep what you have.

My initial reaction was keep what you have. In reading the arguments for the MacKinnon side, I got closer to it being a toss-up. As a MacKinnon owner, it's weird but my gut is telling me that you should still stay with where you're at.

Now, if you can get him to change a few of the pieces- or if you change a few of your pieces- it might be then get the green light.

You guys are blinded by Tarasenko right not. I don't neccesarily blame you due to how good Tank has been but Mackinnon will be the next Crosby/Stamkos. I know most people online will be short sighted and go with the Tarasenko side. Just like they would have laughed at this offer for Mackinnon before the season. The internet is the strange place.

And Josh, you are just trying to justify trade raping your farm league team from our pool. If only he wasn't part of it, it would be a much more equitable pool.

    Thanks for your input everybody.

I have gotten him to lower his asking price to Tarasenko and T. Johnson for MacKinnon, Kadri and Dal Colle.

I think I'm going to take this one before McKinnon starts getting hot again and he balks at this deal.

I don't like it... look at Tanks shot totals, and daggles the guy looks like a young Ovi minus the physical element. And Johnson isn't a slouch him self could be a legitimate 70 point player. I look at it like this with established players IE. these guys potential as this deal....

P.Kessel + E.Staal (Tank+Johnson) for Getzlaf (Mack) your call but as others pointed out is the potential slight increase worth loosing two stars right now?
