So I know McDavid could be a generational, Crosby-esque player... but I don't know much about Jack Eichel. What kind of upside does he have? Shoot first or pass first guy? Does he muck it up? Any player comparison? Like a Hossa/Heatley in their early years? Not quite as good? Or better, like a Stamkos? Hall?

Just trying to get an idea of what he can potentially be.

I believe he's been compared to Getzlaf. This guy can play. Terrific skater, just as speedy as McDavid. I think he's been given far less attention than he would have if this wasn't the McDavid draft. I believe if you target Eichel in your draft you'll pay quite a bit less but probably be getting almost as good a player as McD.

Dobber likes to compare Eichel to Modano, and I think it's a pretty good one. Good size, fantastic skater, high IQ and great shot. Just a very good hockey player, all around. It's hard to predict what kind of "role" a player will take on while they're playing college hockey, since there are so many small and/or inferior players. Being a center it's likely he settles into a playmaking power forward role, like Getzlaf, Kopitar, or Thornton. But I do think he'll be more of a goal scorer than any of those players.

I do think McDavid is the clear cut #1 in this draft, but Eichel is the best #2 since Malkin.

Hall and Seguin? I think that was the last best 1-2.

But Eichel is the smart man’s target in this FANTASY DRAFT. I’m not saying if you have #1 take Eichel over McDavid, I’m saying Pick2 will be a lot cheaper than Pick1 if you trade for it. The biggest knock against him is just where he plays, this WJC will help address if he can use his size against bigger guys.

I think the hype would be a lot bigger on this kid if he was playing in the CHL instead of the US College ranks. He doesn't get the same exposure as McDavid but make no mistake about it, this kid is probably closer to McDavid then many are giving him credit for.

    Ok so fun question:

Right now, who would you and wouldn't you trade straight up for the #1 overall pick in next year's draft (i.e. McDavid). Same question for the #2 pick (Eichel). In other words, would you give up a guy like T. Hall or Karlsson for the #1 pick? How about the #2 pick?

Yes I'd considering giving up Hall for the first pick. I would try to avoid paying that much for #2 as I dont think people are as excited about Eichel. I think I'm going to target Eichel in this years draft because I know the guy tanking for McDavid won't listen to offers pretty much unless I pay a stupid amount.

They are both very special players... and much closer than anyone in Canada is giving Eichel credit for.

I haven't seen much of eichel but going off of what I've read, I almost want to think a slightly note offensive version of toews? I could be completely wrong but that is my impression so far

I think the key to focus sing on the #2 pick is people are drastically under valuing the quality of Eicel...rather Pol are focused on not getting McDavid. You should be able to get the #2 pick for a decent price.

I would trade Hall for it but think you should be able to get it for much less than Hall.

You have to think the World Juniors will boost Eichel's profile and hype level massively - especially in front of Canadians fans and media. TSN is carrying every USA game too. I think his quiet presence behind McDavid is probably coming to an end, and the Hype Tax that will come with acquiring #2 overall picks will increase dramatically.

I am sure there will be others, along with Eichel, who's stock rises after the WJC. It happens every year.

Eichels stock could plummet with that way of thinking too. If he gets outdueled at every turn, he could drop in fantasy terms. Not likely, but it’s a possibility.
