Yeah the reality is it will probably be both of them benefitting. Gelinas was getting time with Zids on the top PP even when Severson was in the lineup so maybe he solidifies that top spot and Merrill fills the gap he leaves on PP2?

I just check and Zidlicky-Gelinas did play both even-strength and PP together last game.
Whenever possible, a coach does like to roll his ES pair onto the PP if they are serviceable there.
Just keeps line shifting cleaner.

Gelinas is also much more of a shooter, pacing for 2+ SOG/game (59 SOG in 26 games)...
...whereas Merrill is under 1 SOG/game (15 SOG in 19 games).
