Trading Mackinnon

Points only full keeper league

Never thought I would get an offer good enough to trade Mackinnon but today I think I got one and pulled the trigger

I'm in first place in an 11 team league (Start 12 forwards, 6 D and 2 G) and obviously Mackinnon hasn't done much to put me there


Traded Mackinnon, Craig Anderson (who was subbing in for Varlamov) and a 4th round pick
for
JVR, Tyson Barrie and Pekka Rinne

Wanted to get some thoughts on it, since trading Mackinnon is such a huge deal

Barrie replaces Niskanen
Rinne in for Anderson/Varlamov
and of course JVR for Mack

How many extra points did I gain for the rest of the year??
Long term implications??

I suppose you did the deal to get a solid goalie. Tough call cause if your goalies all suck, then this will help a lot this season.

My goalies to start the year were Halak and Varlamov

Ive had to pull Varlamov times already and had Berra as insurance and hes done nothing either
I only got Anderson last week in exchange for bouwmeester

So, even though Im in first, my one goalie slot only has 11 points (2 points for win, for shutout)
Halak has been carrying my goaltending

So now its Rinne, Halak with Varly as a nice bench asset

What are your goalie categories?

Are Varlamov and Rinne the only goalies you have now if yes well then Rinne is a nice step up on Anderson.

Mack>JVR

So you upgraded in goal but might suffer longterm with losing Mackinnon in a points only

and an extra 3 for shutout

And no, Halak and Rinne are my goalies now
Varlamov has been relegated to my bench

Definitely helps you this year. Losing Mack hurts in the future but Rinne and JVR should keep you competitive for quite awhile

If you're in first then I'm guessing you can sacrifice MacK. Rinne is a terrific own right now, maybe the best goalie in the league at this moment. I'd prefer you gave someone else up than MacK, but I'd imagine the guy selling Rinne is rebuilding and wants MacK mainly for his youth and potential so won't want older players.

Yes, the other guy is in rebuild mode
Its always iffy trading a superstar for 3 others
I thought this was a rare scenario where it made sense and you guys have helped me keep that belief

I was in 9th place last year and 11th the year before (where i drafted Mackinnon)
This is a full dynasty (keep 35 plus 5 farm)
I have a chance to complete a perfect rebuild by winning the league this year
