Default Martin Brodeur to practice with Blues

    700 wins here we come!

@FriedgeHNIC: RT @StLouisBlues: Blues President/GM of Hockey Operations Doug Armstrong announced that goaltender Martin Brodeur will practice with the team starting Friday.
@FriedgeHNIC: Brodeur will join the team at practice. STL will see how it goes and proceed from there. Spot opened up with Brian Elliott injury.
@DarrenDreger: St Louis Blues reached out to Brodeur's agent, Pat Brisson last night and discussions continued this morning to firm up the tryout.

I doubt this will lead to a contract unless Elliott is out longer than they've originally indicated.

I wonder if this means Elliott's injury is more serious than thought or Brodeur trying to use this as an opportunity to showcase what he's got left since teams haven't jumped on his services? Marty was pretty clear that he wanted to start or be an active backup, so I'd be a bit surprised if he'd get the ball rolling with St. Louis if Elliott is only out a couple weeks.

Really good point. Maybe his perspective has changed? Or he's just trying to shine a light on himself ie. he has no intention signing a deal with them but wants to perform well in practice to get the word out? Not really sure. I will say that of all the teams in the league I think St Louis would be one situation where I could see him possibly (MAYBE) doing well. Pretty stingy defensive team similar to NJ in his hayday. At least I think it would go better there than most anywhere else.

Win win situation in my opinion.

Brodeur gets to showcase what he has so the Oilers can feel comfortable signing him. Oops, did I say that aloud? LOL

St. Louis gets a legend to share the ice with their goalie of the future, Allen, without thoroughly insulting the veteran already on the roster, Elliott.

If the Oilers were interested in Brodeur, I am sure they wouldn't be waiting for someone else to try him out first. They would have gone out and signed him themselves.

What are the implications of this signing? Once Elliott returns, the Blues will have 3 goalies and they won't want to carry 3 going forward. Since Allen is waiver-exempt, does this signing mean bye-bye Allen once Elliott comes back?
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

i would sincerely hope not..that would be crazy, to move a young stud goalie to make room for an aging vet...
