Prospect Eligibility

Hello,

I was interested in different leagues' prospect eligibility rules. How do you determine if a prospect is eligible for a prospect draft or not?

In all of my leagues its simply any player who's been drafted or signed by an NHL team.

This is a section from our rules. We have other rules that pertain to our farm teams but this is one section that explains a bit.

P 4. FARM TEAM

4a. Each manager will get a farm team (minor league team) and a parent team. (NHL. Fantasy team). You can cycle players from minor league to parent team as you like as long as they are eligible. there is

no maximum for players on your farm team as eligibility dictates how many can stay, and you may receive 2 for 1 deals through trades. (Refer to rule 1f.)

4b. Prospects are the backbone of building a franchise over the long term. *Make every effort to prepare for the draft.

4c. Eligibility to be put on farm = under 250 NHL games played. (Refer to rule 4f.)

4d. Prospects drafted must have their rights owned by an NHL team.

4e. Prospects can only be acquired through drafting and trading. ( Refer to rule 1d.)

4f. *each team will be allowed to put non-eligible players on their farm*team if the said player decides to not play in the N.H.L. the player has to already be in the Statmasters League. *you can’t draft players

*that are not signed to a nhl team. **(Ex. a player goes to the KHL for a few years, a player retires for a half season, a player holds out on contract negotiations.) if the player then signs back onto an nhl team
you must take him off the farm team.

For one of my leagues, a prospect is anyone with less than 160 NHL games played.

Another rule we have if your interested....

1d. all free agents that are 27year old or older may be added to your team regardless of how many N.H.L. games they have played. if they are under 250 games played, they are also farm eligible.
We have specific moves for the reg. Season whet we can't pick up farm eligible guys.only free agents.

My dynasty league uses the same eligibility requirements that the NHL uses to determine Calder Trophy eligibility, and prospects can be kept on the farm for up to 150 NHL games played.

We have what seems to be a high number of games played at 250, but guys like yakupov,hertle,krieder,eakin don't really make our lineups unless injuries occur. A player like brouwer, hossa,doan,etc. Are just as valuble and are far cheaper to aquire.(keeper league). This allows us to keep guys longer even if they don't crack our roster for a while.

In the league I run, for the prospect draft we allow any player who is or has been eligible for the real NHL draft to be drafted. Players lose "draft eligiblity" at age 23 or after they've played 9 NHL games.
