Borrows late hit on Emelin

Didn't Burrows hit McDonagh late in the early part of last season as well? Will he face any discipline from the league for this play?

It was a late hit, but I doubt anything happens. Looks like emelin sold it a bit too.

If John Garrett thinks it is okay then I don't see any reason to disagree. If you haven't seen a Canuck's game on the local feed, imagine a beacon of pure objectivity... that's Garrett.

Anywho, regarding the hit... I have a hard time seeing a suspension on it. It was late, but not really in league of some of the other cringe inducing hits we've seen recently.

That looked dirty to me. It was late, and at the last second, went from a low position to a high hit, maybe in the head *the replays were horrible). Emelin missed a period or so.

The announcers were brutal last night. They made no mention of the late hit (which led to a goal about four seconds later) until the intermission guys brought it up.

We get those announcers for every sportsnet Canucks game, have for years, they are great. With the exception of the guy in between the benches, he is new and he can go away.
Hit wasn't that bad, he mostly just lost his balance. Led to a sweet goal from Bonino and Dorsett - which is what the announcers were focused on.

Burrows has never been suspended before. He isn't a dirty player. Only people that don't watch Canucks games think that.

Will probably get 1-2 games because he does make contact with the head. Don't think Burrows does anything wrong here though.. 98% of the time Emelin continues to fade to the left and it's more or less a bump in the shoulder that directs Emelin out of position. Because he is falling and sees he made a shitty pass (his shitty pass getting picked off is the MAIN reason why the Canucks scored, not the hit), he puts on the breaks when he is hunched over and contact to the head is made.

First off, I'm a Canucks homer. Saw the re-play because the cameras followed the puck. My opinion is that it was a poor decision by Burrows to finish that check, mostly because he is not well liked by the officials and generally has a bad rep around the NHL, by fans and the league. It was an awkward hit, Emelin was off balance, and he is a small guy so its easy to hit the head. There were several "late" hits in that game, that one wasn't the latest, and none were called. Emelin returned to the game, and may have embellished a bit, hard to say.

The issue I have with it is the inconsistency of the suspensions. I am not surprised the league took this opportunity to get Burrows on the books, but I am surprised at the three games he got. Not nearly as bad as this: http://nhlsuspensions.com/blog/2014/...r-three-games/

I think what did Burrows in was his last second before the hit. He's coming in low, and as Emelin goes back to standing straight up, Burrows also changes his position to go high. Makes it more likely that he was head hunting when he does that.

unlikely. He was trying to hit him the shoulder so he straightens up as Emelin did.

Lets see if Volchenokov gets suspended for Driving his elbow into Fernand in Calgary last night. He didn't return to the game.
And we'll know where the nhl is at.
