The only thing you might of lost was hits, But it is an awful lot to pay for a big name, but you do have to pay for it. And in a limited keeper league you want the best player in the deal, so I approve,
Team and league details in the signature. I just pulled off a monster deal sending PK Subban and Patrice Bergeron for Steven Stamkos. I figured when Hedman gets back I'll still be solid at D, and my offense needed some more firepower.
How did I do???

imo great deal for u. never that hard in fantasy to replace dmen, and stamkos is the 2nd best player in the league. easy win here.
You probaby lose this deal. Subban is an elite D man and with both PIMs and hits is very valuable, probably as valuable if not slightly more valuable than Stamkos.
I wish I had Pengwin's number crunching to back me up here.
At any rate this is not a landslide win or even a win at all.
Elite Cs are more common than Elite D so I'd say it's a poor deal for you.
I disagree there are always surprises on D every IE Brodie, Vatanen etc... Stamkos is a top 5 asset and I think you barely paid enough to get him. When I traded him I got at the time two top 20 forwards, and two top 50 forwards. I now look back at that trade in disgust and wish I still had Stammer.

I have not included the projections based on actuals to date b/c the discrepancy was too large Subban 20th or so, Stamkos 60th or so.
Elite D are incredibly valuable in multicat leagues

The stats that make Subban “better” than Stamkos are the stats that can be easily replaced with a WW d-man.
In fantasy hockey it’s roughly 24 weeks. Stamkos + Franson (WW) per week will do:
0.5goals more, 0.58assists less, 0.4+/- less, 0.95PIMs less, 2 shots less, 8 more hits.
The way things are going in Boston, I don’t see Bergeron meeting his FHG projections. Franson has been meeting his hits for sure. This is a fair deal because Subban brings categories to the table that can be replaced by a WW guy.
So in a typical week making this trade would lead to a 2-3 record based on his original position (I am willing to throw out +/- here since its not reliable). Sure goals are the hardest to come by but at the end of the day they are still worth 1 point per week same as every other stat.
I am willing to concede that it is a fair deal for the OP, close enough that I would not fault him for taking it if he prefers Stamkos. The point is that Stamkos is not obviously the BPA here and its not a slam dunk win.

I think this is a great example of gotta give to get however the key to they deal is what the poster said and not yet been commented on.
They key to this deal is Hedmans return off IR o fill void of Subban. When Hedman got off IR you would have had to drop someone, so making a 2 for 1 deal is extremely intelligent to get something rather than dropping a player.
To upgrade Bergeron to Stamkos and you can replace Subban with Hedmans return this is a fantastic trade. You do give a lot in Subban but the gain of Stamkos and filling Subban void once Hedman is healthy is a great win for you.
until Hedman come's back to take over the WW like gonucks said. Shots, assists, and +/- (wash) should take over the Subban side then.
This is a good trade for now, but a better trade considering he shipped 1 keeper, and 1 boarderline keeper, for Stamkos. Also now allows him to keep Drouin if he pleases

THe problem is that he was never dropping Hedman. He inserts in the lineup either way. If you want to take this approach and assume he would have dropped a D when Hedman returns you get:
Subban and Bergeron for Stamkos and Severson. Severson doesn't tilt the trade for me either way. Maybe he's good all year, maybe he becomes an equivalent to WW defenceman.
If OP's preference is that he would rather have strength at C than at D that's fine, its a close enough deal that I could understand his preference.
