Default What's to like about Wheeler ?

Don't get to see Winnipeg play. He is an unknown commodity to me.
I could use some help with pims, shots and goals.

Wheeler, Buff (forward only), Lucic could be available. I have Vrbata as a bargaining chip.

Vrbata & P.Kane are my RW's. How does Wheeler match up ?
    Cheers

Wheeler is mostly a playmaker, big guy who gets a decent amount of hits with 200+ SOG. He won't score 30 goals for you, but could still hit 70 points by the end of the year. I really like Wheeler and he's still young enough that he could keep up his scoring pace for a few more years. I would take him over Buff and Lucic.

I've owned him in my points-only pool for three seasons... He has reached a nice plateau right now with a very steady output. He'll hover around that 65 points mark again this season imo. When you look at his stats over the past 3 years, he's been consistent and he never misses games due to injuries. You need that type of secondary players to cover yourself when take risks with unknown commodities. Another thing to like about his stats this year: he's receiving more time on the PP than any of his previous seasons, about 50 seconds more. Granted, it's early in the season but if he keeps getting that ice-time with the man advantage, points will come by even if the Jets suck on the PP.

I believe he still has a little room to grow to up his production in the low 70s. The reason I say this is because as a playmaker, you need scorers to complete what you create. The Jets are miserable right now, but they've got some nice talent developing. No knock on Little and Ladd who are serviceable players, but Scheifele (with another year of progression) and EKane (if he can shake off the injuries and the controversies) could become better offensive players and that will only serve Wheeler.

I've really been impressed with him this year. He is typically a very slow starter and the posters above summed him up pretty well.

I don't think the +/- will be great this year when you look at Winnipeg in that Division/Conference but he is a great source of 25-30 goals, 40 apples, and 200+ shots and 150s shots. The early PIMS aren't a great indicator- last year he had 65 and I think you're looking at more like 70-75 this year so if its really PIMs your after Lucic might be a better bet. Love this guy in Roto though- his numbers at the end of the year always surprises you. Buff as forward only isn't nearly as valuable.

While he might not be a guy who produces consistently, his end results in points in each of the last three seasons speak for themselves. And all that on a lousy Winnipeg team. He won't disappoint.
