    Default Tanking and weighted lottery

Would anyone be willing to post their anti-tanking rules they have for their league?

Also, do you have a weighted lottery? How does that work as well?

    Thanks.

Mine has a playoff component, so the bottom five teams are ineligible for the playoffs trophy.

Furthermore, the bottom five teams do watch the playoff race. Because their points get removed from their regular season total. So a good playoff team that finished 10th could drop to the last pick because they kept their playoff guys.

If you are in a league with a decent sized bench then just slap a GP requirement in there... I find it helps ensure that the teams at the bottom of the table actually suck, instead of just pretend to.

Our lottery draft is based on the NHL's. So the last place team in my league would be matched with the last place NHL team (Sabres), etc etc

It works well, and everyone seems fine with it.

Ours is a bit different. It seems good in a limited keeper league because the talent in the 1st round is still pretty equal.

We keep max 1 goalie, so the 1st round is usually a dash for goalies. 8/12 picks tend to be goalies. So the top 5 picks this yr were Varly (original owner had Lundqvist), Backes, Kesler, MAF, and Howard. The result is a dog fight for 1st pick. The only flaw is the team that looks to be coming in 8th tank a bit to get out of the playoffs. But our 8th place team going into the playoffs actually won it last yr, so our GMs know anything can happen once you get in.

Personally it’s all on the type of GMs you have in the league. I don’t like losing, just my personality. So I’ll fight to the end, and I especially like being the spoiler if I’m out.

Here's ours. I built a draft lottery tool that does weighted lottos so we use that to determine who wins, works great

Only bottom six (out of 12), non-playoff teams participate
There are 100 entries (or ‘tickets’) up for grabs in the draft lottery

1)84 tickets will be assigned by default according to each team’s regular season record in the standings as follows:
    i. 12th place – 24 tickets
    ii. 11th place – 20 tickets
    iii. 10th place – 16 tickets
    iv. 9th place – 12 tickets
    v. 8th place – 8 tickets
    vi. 7th place – 4 tickets
    2) 16 tickets can be earned as incentive bonuses for strong performance and competitiveness. They will be assigned as follows:
    i. 1st place in consolation round – 5 tickets
ii. 2nd place in consolation round – 3 tickets
iii. 3rd place in consolation round – 1 ticket
    3) Best record over final 11 games of the season – 5 tickets (this ensures all teams play every team in the league once…in the event of a tie, the tickets will be split evenly among the winners)
    4) Calder winner – 2 tickets (this is the NHL Calder winner. In the event that the NHL Calder winner is not owned by a team participating in the draft lottery, the highest scoring rookie amongst the non-playoff teams will be awarded the Calder for our league)
5 The most that a team can move UP or DOWN in the lottery is 2 places.
    6) The consolation round will feature a mini tournament of 3 matchups. And the order of the winners will be determined by overall record for the tourney with all ties being broken by total amount of fantasy pts amassed during the tournament. The tournament is balanced by strength of schedule.

Dealing with tanking is an interesting topic and certainly top of mind this season with a kid like McDavid coming down the pipe.

Most leagues, if activity isn't an issue, can see pretty clearly if someone is tanking or not and deal with it accordingly. Most leagues have some sort of rule that deals with offenders. Usually it starts off with a warning and then moves into either sliding the "tankers" 1st round draft pick down a few spots or even right to the end of the first round, or in extreme cases, removing their draft pick all together.

As far as the drafts go, most of my leagues follow the NHL. ie - last place in our league follows the last place team in the NHL as far as their draft lottery goes, 2nd to last follows 2nd to last in the NHL and so on and so on. Keep in mind the NHL is changing their lottery rules this year making it harder for NHL teams to tank to get the 1st overall pick too.
