Jagr. Still better offensively, still a gaurantee for top line and PP1.
Question as per the title.
simple
who would you take in a pts only 1 year league?
Jagr. Still better offensively, still a gaurantee for top line and PP1.
Really a tough call here, I mean Jagr is Jagr, but does NJ ever score a ton of goals? no.
Simmonds is a total beast & this could well be his breakout year.
I would peg Jagr for 62 & Simmonds for 67.
So I guess that makes my answer Wayne Simmonds.
Easy Simmonds pick for me.

Simmonds for me. I'd peg them to be around the same points but Simmonds has some upside to go higher. Jagr's age would be a concern in that it leads to games missed this year and lowers his total

Another vote for Simmonds.
Simmonds
The issue with age 40+ players is they often go from great to terrible, with no in between period. And even though Jagr is otherwordly, he simply can't be expected to continue this pace much longer. Plus, with advancing age comes increased injury risk.
Consider Teemu Selanne, who posted 67 points at age 41, then proceeded to finish his career with 51 points in his final 110 games. And Jagr is now 42 years old.
I think Simmonds is the right pick if you're playing the percentages.
I see them dead equal at roughly 60pts. But I'd take Simmonds just because I think there is less risk. Age worries me a little in regards to possible missed games. Also down the road this year if you're looking to trade, Simmonds will net you a much higher return I believe.

thanks for input all! I am shocked to see so many Simmonds responses to be honest
now I am even more puzzled as before, as I was leaning jagr's way...
damn
It's hard to go against Jagr, but I can't help to think over the course of the season Jagr gets some nagging injuries along the way forcing him to miss games. I would definitely go with Simmonds, he should be damn solid for you all season long. Both options are good options, but Simmonds is the right choice imo.
I'd go with Jagr because I think the upside of both players is about the same. But I think Jagr's floor is a bit higher than Simmonds. To me, that's the tiebreaker and it's just a hunch. Also, I can see Simmonds getting moved on and off Giroux's wing consistently if he or the team is struggling to score goals. They're gonna ride that old mule in Newark until he drops dead!
In a one year league, I'd roll with Yammy Yagger.

It's Simmonds for me. 60 points, with more than a third of those coming while on the first PP unit last season. He's proving to be a player that can score different types of goals and play the dirty areas for tip ins and getting the puck to his teammates. He will throw 200 shots on net and notwithstanding a horrible shooting percentage, should keep up his scoring consistency. I had him on my team last year and am already keeping a close watch in case I want to try and snag him in a trade.
