2016/2017 Champion's League: Early Planning

So a few of us have kicked around the concept of a "Champion's League" where you have to finish atop a league to get in.
I love this concept, creme-de-la-creme, for the title of KING of Fantasy Hockey (for a year, that is).

It will be a 12-Team INVITATIONAL based on Winning or Runner-Up in a League Primarily based with DobberForums Members.

QUALIFYING MEMBERS:
1. Champion's League 1st Place previous year. [In Year #1, the invite will go to Dobber. If he declines, all qualifying members move up a slot.]
2. Champion's League 2nd Place previous year. [No invite for Year #1, all qualifying members below will move up a slot.]
3. Champion's League 3rd Place previous year. [No invite for Year #1, all qualifying members below will move up a slot.]

4. DobberForums Tier I: EXPERT League Champ (#1)
5. DobberForums Tier II: PRO League Champ (#1)
6. Rocky Horror Roto Show Champ (#1)
7. Comish Dynasty Upper-Tier Champ (#1)
8. UHL Champion (#1) [UHL can decide on Regular Season or Playoff Champ]
9. WHL Champion (#1) [WHL Regular Season Champ]

10. DobberForums Tier I: EXPERT League Runner-Up (#2)
11. DobberForums Tier II: PRO League Runner-Up (#2)
12. DobberForums Tier I: EXPERT League Runner-Up (#3)

If any of 12 above are same person or not filled, next up:
13. DobberForums Tier II: PRO League Runner-Up (#3)
14. Rocky Horror Roto Show Champ (#2)
15. Comish Dynasty Upper-Tier Runner-Up (#2)
16. UHL Runner-Up (#2) [UHL can decide on Regular Season or Playoff finish]
17. WHL Runner-Up (#2) [WHL Playoff H2H Champ -or- if same person, 2nd in Regular Season]
*. If spots are still unfilled, a Past Champion of a League mentioned above will be invited.

The Champion's League shall consists of two leagues:
League #1: Roto. Daily Set. 4C/4LW/4RW/6D/2G. Categories to be Determined
League #2: H2H. Daily Set. 4C/4LW/4RW/6D/2G. Categories to be Determined
The team that has the best combined finish in the TWO leagues is deemed the Champion (or King, whatever).
If two teams tie, the team with the better ROTO finish is deemed the higher finisher.

Draft Position:
There are 24 draft slots. 12 in the Roto Draft. 12 in the H2H Draft.
Teams will be allowed to pick their draft position in either draft in the order listed above, snaking back.

Awards:
The Champion shall be awarded some grand title with which they may use in their SIG & perhaps a custom Dobber Icon, if he can add one.
2nd & 3rd place teams may also be granted with some title.

I think that winners of other experts pools should form a Challenger's League. An eligible league would be made up of over 50% Dobber writers, forum members with at least 2000 posts (maybe a rep number instead) and/or published writers from other significant sites. Same setup, and the top 3/4 teams from that league make it into the Champions League the following season.

I like the sound of a Challenger's League.
You'd have to set that up.
At most, I'd say only the winner of that Challenger's League, (1) invitation, gets to join in the Champion's League.
And you may have to sacrifice Expert's League slot #4 if you want to make that spot available.

I like the idea of allowing the Winners from a few other leagues enter it instead of 2/3/4 position from the Experts/Pro Leagues.

There are some fantastic leagues that could have their winners invited to the Champions League.

I've submitted a proposal that the winner of the Comish Dynasty replace the 4th place Experts League finisher.

What a great idea Peng! Looking forward to seeing this take shape. You may have to deal with people who qualify by winning two of these leagues - just thinking ahead!

Shameless Plug. I joined the Puck Hogs Local league this year and it has five divisions, with 12 teams each. The winner of that should join this league as well!

[FWIW, that's my requirement for being Invitation-Eligible... league must have been hyped on the forums for years. Comish Dynasty, UHL, RHRS. These leagues have been around for 3 or more years each and have league threads here on DH.]

doulos, we're (Comish Dynasty) full this season, but have vacancies every year, sometimes multiple, depending on how busy people's lives get. For sure one team gets punted every year. I'll keep you in mind if we have a sudden opening or at worst, next year.

Some recent thoughts on "Champion's League".

1. As Yahoo! still has a big base, I think the ROTO league would be hosted on Yahoo!
2. As Fantrax is gaining in popularity, I think it would be interesting to do the H2H league on Fantrax. This will force the Yahoo! crowd to... cross-over.

3. Long-in-Advance Planned Draft Days:
Yahoo! ROTO Draft: Sunday, September 13th, 2015, 3pm Eastern. (*One "day-time" draft as we may have a few Europeans)
Fantrax H2H Draft: Monday, September 14th, 2015, 9pm Eastern. (*Following day, "night time" draft)
*The reason for the early calendar draft dates is so that people don't go keeping their player secrets for an entire pre-season.
*The forums are a lot more fun if people are speaking freely to the NOOBS about their draft strategies and players they like.
*This draft on each platform (Yahoo/Fantrax) will also help the "experts" tell the NOOBs everything they learned from a competitive (UBER-competitive) Roto Draft and H2H Draft.

4. No "in-draft" FHG (or any other real-time computer-assistance) allowed.
This will be on "honour system".
You can prepare with software, you can print out sheets, but absolutely no computer-assistance "in-draft".
(To be clear, I'm a big fan of the concept of FHG... but I think it's a shame when people have the FHG software open "in-draft". Don't be a robot.).
