    Default Suter vs. Kessel

Who would you prefer with the Cats in Sig.

FHG has them as almost identical.

I'm taking Phil Kessel here. I think there's more of a drop off in RW depth than there is at D not to far after these guys are ranked in their respective positions.

Without context (which is what?), I would choose Kessel quite easily. FHG should be taken with a grain of salt, which tends to devalue those who are low in specific categories. Sure, Kessel's hits are low but there aren't many forwards who could match his offensive production.

Looking at your signature, I see you have Suter. Not sure if you're contemplating a trade but this is how I look at it:

If someone offered you Kessel for Suter, I would accept without thinking twice.
If you are offering Suter for Kessel, expect a quick rejection as it's not close to being enough IMO.

    Kessel easily.
Take the FHG scores with a grain of salt. They're a good guide but they take into consideration all categories and position scarcity.
However, some categories are easier to get than others. Very difficult to find kessels 40 goals anywhere else.

Kessel for sure. The offense he provides outweighs the peripherals that Suter fills out as they can be easier to find on low end players on the waiver wire. It's much harder to pick up significant points from a low end waiver wire player.

    Oh, Kessel for sure.
I have a similar Excel spreadsheet that does same thing as FHG, so I know the formulas are good.

Kessel will give you NOTHING in +/-, Hits, Blocks.
Suter pars him in value because he's +15, 72 hits, 132 Blocks.

I'd rather have Kessel's Goals & SOG though, harder to find on the wire.

The comparison is really 1F/1D vs. 1F/1D.
Let's start with a TOTAL STATS you might be looking for with those two players:
    40 G, 50 A, +10, 150 Hits, 180 Blocks, 22 PPP, 400 SOG.

    Kessel gives: 37G, 43A, -5, 25 Hits, 30 Blocks, 20 PPP, 305 SOG.
    ComplimentD: 3G, 7A, +15, 125 Hits, 150 Blocks, 2 PPP, 95 SOG.

    Suter gives: 8G, 35A, +15, 70 Hits, 130 Blocks, 20 PPP, 150 SOG.
    ComplimentF: 32G, 15A, -5, 80 Hits, 50 Blocks, 2 PPP, 250 SOG.

Question, can you find that 10pt/125hit/150blk defenseman on the wire?
Answer: Oh yes, certainly yes. [Last year, this was guys like Jan Hejda and Kevin Klein.]

Question, can you find that 32 goal/250 SOG forward on the wire?
Answer: Oh no, definitely not. [Closest you can get might be a 20G, 220 SOG, 110 Hit player like Sean Bergenheim... but that ain't nearly enough... 12 goals short.]

    That's the difference.
    Kessel, easily.

I would take Kesse. Points per game RW are harder to replace.

Kessel for me then put Buff on D to replace Suter. Being able to move Buff back makes this a better deal than just looking strictly at the Kessel/Suter swap.
