"The Anaheim Ducks are hoping Dany Heatley will be a fit with top-line star Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, however he may not be the player lining up alongside the Ducks' superstar duo. The team revealed Monday that Heatley will be out a minimum of one week due to a groin injury.
Heatley signed a one-year, $1 million deal to join the Ducks this summer. Through his first three preseason games, the veteran has three points including a pair of goals.
With only nine days remaining before the season begins, the Ducks already have an uncertain situation with the 33-year-old winger. That's certainly not the ideal way to start off what could be a very interesting experiment with Getzlaf and Perry.
Heatley is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2013-14 with the Minnesota Wild in which he had 28 points. Though no one expects Heatley to match the scoring production he showed as a back-to-back 50-goal scorer with the Ottawa Senators, playing alongside two superstars could certainly goose his production.
Earlier this week, Heatley expressed optimism heading into the season as a top-line option for the Ducks to the Los Angeles Times:
"I think it can work and I'm going to try my best and keep going with it,” Heatley said. “… I fit in with the Ottawa guys, and I can fit in with these two."
Unfortunately, both Heatley and the Ducks may have to wait a few games before they can find out just how well he'll fit in.
