Tavares vs Benn in Yahoo! Fan points...

I am in the midst of negotiations (my Tavares for his Benn) in a dynasty league that I am apart of that is based on Yahoo! Fantasy Points system. It is a unique scoring setting...

Needless to say, this league actually benefits all types of players in particular guys that have across the board value... also playoffs are an important part of this league as well.

If this was a regular keeper league, I would say no because a) JT is one of my favs b) JT's upside is huge... but Benn is this league could be a beast as he was one of the top scoring players last season...

How does Tavares and Benn stack up against each other... does Benn have more than what he did last season? Will the Islanders every get over the hump?

I'd still prefer Tavares myself. Benn may touch a few of the peripherals a bit better but Tavares' ceiling in terms of points is too high to pass up.

Tavares is Tier 1 overall.
Benn is Fringe Tier 2.

I suggest you provide their fantasy points - over the season and per game - to better illustrate their values in this league.

I think unless you are getting a sweetner in the deal, that this isn't one you want to do. I will come back to bite you in the ass, sooner than you think.

I can see upside for both players. Tavares was on his way to Art Ross contention before his Olympic injury ended his season. I'd like to see what he can do over 82 games. If he's hitting 100 points, I'd have a tough time believing Benn can surpass that.

On the other hand, Benn has already proven he can score at a point-per-game pace and that's without the benefit of an even remotely good power play. Assuming that Dallas power play gets it's act together we could see Benn hitting the 90's for points and coming close matching Tavares' power play output that gives him a real edge in this format. Add in the hit bonus that Benn will provide and he could beat out Tavares handily.

But in the end Benn has a stinking bit of sell-high to him. Just enough for me to steer towards keeping Tavares. I think more seasons than not Tavares wins this scoring race.

So Benn beats out Tavares by approximately 20 points. A couple of notes:
- This difference is almost entirely made up by the +/- difference, which I think will shrink as the Islanders improve, so Tavares closes the gap a bit.
- I see a little room for improvement in Benn's points from 79 to maybe 85. However, similarly I could see Tavares adding on the same to about 95 so call it a wash.
- 20 PPP for Benn seems pretty reasonable, but Tavares might be high at 34. He's an offensive specialist, so let's say 30 is reasonable pointing to a small regression.
- The peripherals look reasonable. I wouldn't expect a significant increase or decrease for either player.

Ultimately I think Benn provides slightly better point totals, but Tavares tends to carry a bigger name. If you can get something reasonable added to the Benn side, I would consider making this deal.

I prefer Tavares. The 100 pt upside is the kicker for me, Benn doesn't have that level. Hits/blocks can be made up for lower on your roster.

This is a points based league so hits/blocks aren't really made up by the lower portion of the roster.
