    USA
With the dominating results you expected in an easy group. Team USA actually trailed at halftime against Turkey in its second game and looked a bit sluggish in the finale against Ukraine, but pulled together to win both by over 20 points. There's some injury concern, though, as Kyrie Irving took a hard fall at the end of the victory over Ukraine.

    Mexico
By doing what it was supposed to do. Gustavo Ayon's bunch was clearly a cut below the top three teams in Group B, but they handily beat bottom-feeders Angola and Korea by a combined 41 points to get the two wins necessary to finish fourth.

    France
By winning the games it should. France lost a tight opener to Brazil, which put it behind the 8 ball for seeding out of Group A from the very beginning, and got demolished by Spain. Otherwise, though, it held on against Serbia, crushed Egypt and survived a spirited Iran effort to advance. It hasn't been the smoothest tournament, as France has played many different players in an attempt to give the new generation experience. Their penalty: a bracket where Spain lurks in the quarterfinals.

    Crotia
Strangely. A pre-tournament favorite to win Group B, Croatia instead overcame internal turmoil to do just enough to advance. A closer-than-expected win over the last-place Philippines proved to be a harbinger of things to come. Following a stunning loss to Senegal and a blowout defeat to Greece

    Slovenia
By dominating Group D ... until an awful collapse in the fourth quarter of its finale against Lithuania erased much of the good work done. Slovenia was up by double digits entering the fourth quarter, but choked it away, going scoreless for over nine minutes. The loss forced them to accept second place in the group after Australia curiously sat many key players to lose to Angola.

    Spain
By crushing the competition in Group A, going 5-0 without really breaking a sweat. Spain was seen as a co-favorites due to their depth and playing on home soil, but they were even more impressive than expected. They crushed Brazil, 83-62, in a game that was even more lopsided than the final score suggested and eventually pulled away in similar fashion against France. Pau Gasol is playing as well as ever and their three-point shooting has been lethal.

    Senegal
Led by promising Timberwolves big man Gorgui Dieng, Senegal topped Puerto Rico on Aug. 31, then pulled off the upset of the tournament by stunning Croatia the next day. Dieng poured in 27 points and eight rebounds in the gutty 77-75 victory that essentially clinched their place in this round. Consecutive losses to Argentina and the Philippines followed, but Senegal's two victories proved to be good enough.

    Lithuania
With a slightly uneven performance that was saved by one thrilling quarter. Lithuania fell to Australia and struggled at times against Mexico and Angola, but rallied in the group's final game to stun Slovenia and take first place in the group. Jonas Valanciunas and Donatas Motiejunas are the team's two leading scorers, but both sat on the bench for much of Lithuania's rally against Slovenia.

    New Zealand
By rallying in its final two games. The Kiwis' tournament appeared to be over after they blew a lead in its opener against Turkey, then fell decisively to the Dominican Republic and Team USA. But they bounced back to beat Ukraine, then held off a furious Finland rally in the group's finale to get in position to advance. The victory over Ukraine proved to be enough to earn the tiebreaker in a deadlocked Group C.

    Greece
By dominating Group B in surprising fashion. Greece went undefeated and were only seriously challenged by Argentina in the group's final game. They topped Croatia by 11 in a game that was not as close as the final score indicated and held off strong efforts by Puerto Rico and the Philippines in double-digit victories. What's especially scary: Greece has been doing this without Giannis Antetokounmpo making much of an impact. He's been coming off the bench behind new Rockets forward Kostas Papanikolaou.

With the results everyone expected when the groups were announced. Serbia beat lowly Egypt and Iran by double digits, fell by one to France, lost by eight to Brazil and dropped the group finale to Spain by double digits. Australia
With lots of controversy. Australia won three of its four group stage games, including a victory over Lithuania, but sat many of its best players in their finale against Angola. Rivals accused Australia of losing on purpose to drop out of Team USA's path -- third place in Group D allows Australia to avoid Team USA until the semifinals, whereas second place forces a game in the quarterfinals. Australia ultimately got its wish when Lithuania rallied to stun Slovenia. Aron Baynes and Joe Ingles have been fantastic, while hyped top-five pick Dante Exum has barely gotten off the bench.

    Turkey
By emerging from the jumble in Group C to earn second place thanks to a victory over the Dominican Republic in the final game of the group. Turkey famously fought hard against Team USA, leading by five points after the first half before eventually succumbing in the fourth quarter, but put its elimination spot in jeopardy with a loss to Ukraine in its next game. But the Turks got it together enough to edge Finland, then top the Dominican Republic to finish 3-2 in the group.

    Brazil
By going 4-1 in the difficult Group A, with the lone loss a beatdown at the hands of Spain. Brazil's opening-day two-point victory over France proved to be the difference in a tight group. They also topped Serbia and routed Iran and Egypt as expected. Marcelino Huertas has been typically excellent at the point and Leandro Barbosa has looked spry in an audition for NBA teams that eventually ended in a contract with the Warriors.

    Argentina
By beating the teams they should (Puerto Rico, Senegal, Philippines barely) and losing in very competitive matches to the better clubs (Croatia, Greece). Luis Scola has been unbelievable in what may be his final international tournament, leading all players in scoring during the group stages. Their reward? A Round of 16 game against their bitter South American rivals. The last time these two teams played was in a tense quarterfinal in the 2012 Olympics, won by Argentina.

    Lithuania
It wasn't easy for either squad, but Lithuania and Turkey each edged out a narrow victory on Sunday. Corey Webster nearly willed his country to victory with 26 points, but the Toronto Raptors' Jonas Valanciunas answered back with a team-leading 22 points, 13 boards and three blocks. Lithuania escaped with a 76-71 victory to set up a date with Turkey. Each squad relies on a hard-nosed NBA center. While Valanciunas leads the way for Lithuania, Omer Asik has fueled Turkey with 9.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Both are physical inside presences, but the Raptors' 22-year-old is out to prove he's a future cornerstone for his NBA and national club.

''Jonas played really well and that's what we expected,'' Kazlauskas said. ''He has gotten stronger and has more experience. Now he respects his opponents even more and knows the price of every game.''He has fueled an offense that rates seventh with a 48.8 team field-goal percentage this tournament. Turkey lags way behind at No. 15 with a 42.2 percent success rate, so Asik would have to lead a defensive clinic to propel the squad into the final four.Neither nation is a likely contender for gold, but Lithuania's superior offense will make the difference in a close game between two unlikely participants.

Team USA is admittedly flawed by its lofty standards. No LeBron James and Kevin Durant means the Americans are nearly much better than everyone else rather than an unstoppable basketball machine.also mean big scoring outings for the U.S. guards. A shootout awaits, and Team USA has averaged just below 100 points per game, well ahead of No. 2 Spain at 88.2. There's always the danger of every shooter going cold, which happened for a half against Turkey, but Curry is coming off a 20-point outing against Mexico. Besides, the beauty of this team is you need more than one hand to count the guys that can carry it to victory.

Entering the tournament ranked No. 13, Slovenia has instead gone 5-1 while placing fourth in points per game behind the U.S., Spain and Brazil, FIBA's perennial favorites. Goran Dragic, the NBA's most underrated offensive fiend, continues to shine in Spain. The Phoenix Suns point guard is averaging 16.6 points per game on an incredible 58.8 field-goal percentage. Brazil
Brazil powered their way to a large lead early. In 33 touches, the team from South America scored forty eight points. Brazil will lead to a different result. The two sides played during the group stage, with the South American squad coming out on top.The difference in that game was down low. Brazil shot better from two-point range, won the rebounding battle and blocked more shots. It puts more pressure on Miroslav Raduljica and Nemanja Bjelica to produce at both ends for Serbia.the team from South America scored forty eight points. Everything was magical and they were dominating on the inside. It was easy, maybe too much so. One area where the Brazilians should have a clear edge is depth. They are one of the most well-rounded teams in the tournament. So much so that only one player, Leandro Barbosa, is averaging more than 10 points per game.

    Serbia
Serbia was over aggressive at this point and got two charges in a row. Raduclcia faltered late at the free throw line and that was all she wrote in this one. Bogdan Bogdanovic, who's been a key offensive stalwart throughout the event, was on target again, as he knocked down four treys on his way to 21 points. Serbia ended up shooting 53 percent from beyond the arc to spark the minor upset. The question is whether Serbia's top three or four can hold up amid a busy schedule. It's a good matchup overall, but EuroHoops thinks there should be crossover play rather than having group rivals playing each other again in the quarterfinals

Marc Gasol was among the big contributors with nine points, six rebounds and four assists as the tournament hosts won 89-56.Spain and France have had some memorable clashes in recent years.Spain should be able to handle France and move on to the Final Four.

France will be looking to lean on Joffrey Lauvergne, who has proved to be an effective centerpiece of their offense. Spain has the advantage of depth, especially as far as its backcourt is concerned. Spain showed what it was capable of during their 88-64 dominant win over France during the group stages. Without Tony Parker, France will need other players to step up and fill the scoring void left in the wake of his absence.

Team USA is the overwhelming favorite in this game, but I don’t expect the United States to win by 40 or more points, Lithuania will keep it close for a little longer than people might think. The United States looks to be in excellent form heading into the final four after a masterful 119-76 demolition of Slovenia in the quarterfinals. Six Americans tallied at least 12 points in the quarters, with Klay Thompson the leading scorer with 20 points as the U.S.A. advanced to their third-consecutive World Cup semifinal. The Americans’ size and athleticism were simply too much for the Slovenians in the second half however, as the Americans coasted to a lopsided win. They will next face Lithuania in the semifinals which is a rematch of their final four clash four years ago. Kevin Durant was the star of the show in that game as he single-handedly towed the Americans to an 89-74 win. His 38 points set an American scoring record for the world championships, breaking Carmelo Anthony’s mark of 35.

Lithuania is coming off of a 73-61 win over Turkey. Renaldas Seibutis led the team with 19 points, and Jonas Valanciunas scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the contest. Lithuania overcame a poor start to defeat Turkey, 73-61, to book their place in the semifinals of the FIBA World Cup. Renaldas Seibutis was the hero for Lithuania as he scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to outlast the Turks and set up the much-anticipated rematch with the United States. In fact, Lithuania has relied on their outside sniping to progress this far in the tournament. Through seven games, the Lithuanians have buried 54 out of 135 three-point attempts for an impressive 40 percent clip, the best mark among the remaining World Cup teams. Lithuania is one of a handful of teams that have successfully beaten the U.S.A. in the world basketball stage. They defeated the U.S. 94-90 in the 2004 Olympics.

    Serbia

France scored a massive upset over the 2014 FIBA World Cup host, Spain, to take one step closer to the championship, and perhaps eliminate the one team who could have challenged the Americans. Standing in France’s way is Serbia, who are hungry to avenge their razor-thin loss to the French in the group stage.

If Serbia wants to enjoy the same success they had in the first matchup, they’ll need to limit Diaw’s production again. Serbia will also need to force France to take outside jumpers. The French are one of the tournament’s worst at converting three pointers, having gone 49 of 155 thus far.

No Tony Parker? No problem. Thomas Heurtel gladly took the reins as France ousted the highly favored Spain from the tournament on Wednesday. Heurtel scored nine of his 13 points in the final frame and also finished with four assists. In the meantime, Boris Diaw exploded to lead France with 15 points (nine coming from beyond the arc), while Nicolas Batum had a block to go along with his nine points and four assists. France is looking like a far better team than the one dominated by Spain 88-64 in the group stage. They’ll face one final hurdle before a potential matchup with the tournament favorites, USA, in the final.

Hello everyone congratulations to France for being 3rd place to FIBA World Cup 2014 with a final score of 93- 95.however tomorrow is the final matches between USA vs Serbia

The closest any team has come to beating Team USA at the FIBA World Cup was Turkey back in the group stage, where the Americans by five at the half and ended up winning by “only” 21 points.
Serbia has the talent and system to keep it about that close. Maybe. Here some previews of both teams, for more updates visit

    USA
USA (8-0) has led an absolutely charmed existence so far in Spain. Placed in a fairly weak Group B, the Americans blitzed through the competition in four out of their five first-round games and dismissed a nice effort from Turkey before things truly got interesting. In the knockout stage, USA manhandled Mexico and Slovenia before dominating Lithuania 98-68 in the semifinals. All told, none of USA's eight opponents has succeeded in keeping the final margin within 20 points.

USA brings a different level of athleticism to the party. Kyrie Irving will start on Teodosic and he can be disruptive. Then when Teodosic comes around the pick he will see the long arms of Anthony Davis, who can shut off the drive and still recover to the rolling Raduljica (and you can expect weak-side help from the energetic Kenneth Faried there). When Irving gets a break the USA rolls in Derrick Rose — who has moved well and played good defense this tournament even as his shot has not fallen — and they also play Stephen Curry at the point. Basically Teodosic is going to have to play about 35 strong minutes while Mike Krzyzewski keeps rolling in fresh, more athletic guards to throw at him. Serbia
For Serbia’s puncher’s chance to land a whole lot of things have to go right. That will start with their star point guard Milos Teodosic (who spurned the Grizzlies to stay at CSKA Moscow) who must have a monster game. Teodosic is a quality pick-and-roll point guard who can both shoot it (14.1 points a game at 55.2 percent shooting) or find the open man if the defense lapses.

Serbia’s offense often consists of a pick-and-roll out top between Teodosic and Miroslav Raduljica (who sat on the Bucks bench last season) with shooters spacing the floor everywhere, such as the Suns’ 27th pick from the last draft Bogdan Bogdanovic or former NBA player Nenad Krstic. Raduljica just sets the screen and rolls hard to the rim. It’s a good system, one that Greece, Brazil and France have not been able to figure out in the knockout rounds as all of those world powers fell to Serbia.
