    Default Help with Final Keeper

Hi everyone, this is for the team in my signature. ESPN's got me in a bit of a bind by yanking Zetterberg's LW eligibility to start the '14-'15 season. It's left me with 4 keeper centers (we only start 3) and a glaring hole at LW. I'm trying to work a few trades to fill my gap at LW, but if I can't find a trading partner, what's my best option here?

My gut is saying that keeping 4 centers doesn't seem like the right move, especially with how easily that position can be filled by free agents. So I have two questions:

    1. If I only keep 3 centers, between Thornton and Zetterberg, who makes the cut?
    2. Who is my final keeper: Eriksson, OEL, Barrie or Fowler?
    12 Team Weekly H2H, Daily Lineups. Keep 7 + 1 Prospect (<164 NHL games).
    Scoring:
    PLAYER: G(3), A(2), D Pts(addt'l 0.7), +/-(0.5), PPP(addt'l 1), SHP(addt'l 0.5), SOG(0.4), BLK(0.8)

maybe see what you can get in terms of trade value out of Thornton and Zetts and keep the one that brings back the weaker return

Holtby and Anderson should carry value in a 12 team league and one of them paired with the above should bring back something of value

Voracek should be able to get you some value as well I would think

Thornton over Zetts (not sure I would gamble on a back surgery)

If you can find an ideal partner to swap Zetts and Voracek for a solid LW I would try that. If all else fails I like the idea of holding onto OEL.
    Points only pool - H2H - Dress 11/week - 2 at every forward position(RW, LW, C), 4 D, 1G
Goalie Points = 2/win, 1/overtime loss, 3 more/shutout (They typically make up most of the top 10 point getters every year in our league)

24 teams but 2 of every player (2 Crosbys, 2 Rasks, etc.) so treat it like a 12 team.

PROTECT 11 (max. roster size is 25)

LW - Benn, Pacioretty, Henrique, Abdelkader, Pulkkinen
    C - Tavares, Backstrom, Johansen
RW - Giroux, Wheeler, Donskoi, Pomminville, Silvferberg
D - Josi, Karlsson, Burns, Seabrook, Reilly, Gardiner,
    G - Jones, Rinne, Miller

That's what I'm hoping for. I feel like I have a lot of good trading chips, but trades are just notoriously hard to make in our league.

In a league where goals worth 3 pts and assists 2 points, I like Zett better than Jumbo Joe since I think their points total should be pretty much even.....

My last keeper would be OEL as well.

Keep working the phones to make a deal until you run out of time. If you can't make a deal:

    Thornton would be my keeper

OEL would be my keeper from those 4.

Agreed with the rest. Shop both Big Joe and Zetts and see what happens. Failing a deal, Big Joe and OEL for me.

Obviously see if you can make a deal first, that goes without saying, but if you cannot make any moves I would go with Zetterberg, Thornton is too assist driven.

That's what I thought too, but Zetts has me worried because of his back problems, so I looked at the stats over the past 5 years (no particular reason I went with 5 over another length of time). Correct me if I'm looking at this wrong:

Zetts averaged 0.29 goals per game played, while Thornton averaged 0.20, or 7 more goals a season. Assuming Thornton plays in 82 games, that's 16 goals. If Zetts maintained 0.29 goals per game, he would only need to play 57 games to get 16 goals (missing 25 games). That's a lot of time to miss, so is it reasonably safe to assume he sits out 25 games or less?

That's also looking at just goals alone. Thornton has the edge when it comes to assists, but their point totals are roughly the same, so again Zetts would have the edge because of the higher point value for goals in our league. There's also SOG, which Zetts doubles Thornton over the past 5 years (total of 1,200 vs 600, and that's not even adjusting for games missed). The rest of the categories are roughly the same for both players.

So taking all of that into consideration, I come out more convinced that if I can't find a trade and have to pick one, Zetts is the better option.
