    Default Advice on Rookie Draft

I have the first two selections in our rookie draft. Monahan, Hertl, and Bjugstad are still available. how would you rank these players short term(1-2) years, and long term(3-5)?

F: -P. Kane, Benn, Schiefele, Laine, Eichel, S. Reinhart, Ehlers, Schmaltz, Bailey, Panik, Eaves, Zetterberg, Steen, Beauvillier, C. Fischer

D: - Byfuglien, Matheson, Hanifin, Ekholm, Djoos, Butcher, Sanheim

    G: - Dubnyk, Lundqvist, Shesterkin

Just to trhow a kink into things, Johansen is available too, but not sure how big his contract is going to be? Is he a cant miss? Does he repeat next year with similar totals?does he hold out? I wouldnt be totally opposed to put him on the farm this year if his contract is huge and prevents me from being able to make any moves. I really need to get out of the basement though and if he plays will definitely help. Would it be the best play to go Ry Jo and Hertl?

Ryan Johansen and Monahan for me.

Johansen is the best player you have named so far. Big contract or not, do not pass up the best player because of money, especially if you can stash him in your minors if you are strapped for cash. Make some trades and make room for him. I guarantee he won't last long in your draft if you pass on him

RJ is a great option but I think he's going to be expensive ($6mil expensive)
I'd stick with Hertl and Monahan

Why don't you give us a list of available players, and we can get a better idea of what kind of decisions you should be making here. With what you've given us so far, I would go with Johansen and Monahan. Hertl is enticing, but I think Monahan will end up providing more "well-rounded" production.

Yeah, it is so deep with great talent. I'll pick first, second but hten not till 14th, so the players that I don't pick will assuredly be gone.

Keep in mind guys that this is a cap league so RJ might be a poor choice if he gets that fat contract he is pushing for.
Compare RJ at $6mil versus Monahan (who will be just as good or not better in my opinion) who costs $1.775mil or Hertl who costs $1.35mil

He's the best player available and can still be stashed in his minors. All these guys are getting a fat contract at some point.

Yeah but Monahan for example has 2 years left at that price before his next contract. I'm willing to bet he puts up some serious numbers this season (50pts?) and is as good as RJ the season after. Much better bang for the buck, and like I said he's likely to be the best player of the three.
