With Niskanen's move to Washington, what are your expectations for Maatta?

Maatta underwent a shoulder procedure at the Cleveland Clinic and will miss 4-6 months. The 19-year-old played 78 games for the Penguins this season, finishing with nine goals and 20 assists. He added four assists in Pittsburgh's run to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

6 months would have him out until late November. Any word on his progress?

He's still at best the 3rd or 4th option, and in terms of offensive minutes/PP time is likely behind Derrick Pouliot if he makes the team.

Oh I did not know he was out that long, I'll have to adjust my rankings to accomodate for that, thank you!

For what it is worth, I had him getting around 32-35 pts in a full season this year, so deduct 10-15 pts from that

Its still possible he's available for opening day. I haven't seen an update.

I wouldn't jump on him too high this year. He could be good to target later on if he is out any significant time.

I dont expect him to put up "big" offensive numbers but he will be a solid NHL Dman for years.

Tough injury and potentially a significant blow to this young mans career. We'll have to see what happens. However, with the arrival of Erhoff in Pitt, Maata, even healthy, will be in very tough to put up fantasy relevant numbers this year. If you can stash him on the farm, great, if not, there are better options out there IMO.

Pouliot had similar shoulder surgery and Maata could beat him back onto the ice.
According to team officials, Derrick Pouliot is recovering on schedule from off-season shoulder surgery.
Olli Maatta is also on the mend from an off-season shoulder procedure and it's believed that he'll be back sooner than Pouliot, but it is still unclear when that will happen. His injury hurts his immediate value, which knocks him just off the list. A major flaw in the formula, but not sure how to correct. Make no mistake, he's probably a Top 75 keeper own for dmen
