Hey Guys, I'm in a long term keeper league going into our 4th season and we've decided this year we'd try head to head. our league is pretty much straight up points but i can only protect 20 players while staying under the NHL Salary cap of $69 mil.
I'd like to ask the community of pros here on Dobber who I should keep?

The top group is who i believe i should keep and they already add up to nearly $43 mil.

    Hmmm...

First of all I'd probably drop Fasth - you have two solid starters in Price and Niemi and I think Fasth is going to be a poor 1B option in EDM - dropping him will save you $3 million anyway.

    So $40 million on 12 players; does your league use certain positions (i.e. 4 C 4 LW 4 RW etc. or just F, D, and G)? I see 3 C's, 1 LW, 1 RW, 5 D, and 2 G's as keepers so far.

So now we have $29 million remaining with 8 players to pick - without knowing the number of active positions ...

    I'd definitely keep LW Perron $4.25, RW Vrbata $5, C Oshie $4.5 = $13,750,000.

5 players left to pick with roughly $15 million to spend.

D Wiercioch isn't a bad option for $2.2 mil, then I'd look at RW Setoguchi and LW Raymond for a combined ~$4 million.

With ~$7.6 mill to spend I'd probably end up choosing (2) between Nielsen, Hagelin, Cogliano, and Anisimov. Depends on how close to the cap you want to be.

I'd also consider making room for Carter in there somehow - tough to swallow his salary though.

Do you have to keep 20 or could you pursue other players via free agency?

Hope that helps a bit - good luck with your team !

That's a great break-down by Vintage Vibe, well done!

I agree with dumping Fasth for the salary, you got to be able to pick up a cheaper backup goalie than that.
I think Perron, Oshie and Vrbata are all good additions too. I hate Setoguchi but he's cheap so maybe he's worth a gamble?
Koivu seems like a decent value too, probably better than Carter for points and cheaper?

On your core group i have it at 41,515,000 and that is minus Fasth as i agree with Vintage on that cut. So with Fasth you were at over 44mil. So you miscalculated unless my math is wrong.

Going with that these are the 8 players i was able to fit that give you 20 and the usual standard of 4C ,4LW , 4RW, 6D 2G with a little over 1 mil in cap space.

    Frans Nielson-C
    David Perron-LW
    Carl Hagelin-LW
    Mason Raymond-LW
    Jeff Carter-RW
    Radim Vrbata-RW
    Devin Setoguchi-RW
    Cory Sarich-D

Tried to fit Mikko in there but no go and same with Wierioch over Sarich but that bought you to 15,000 over (believe it or not) .

This is the best i could do unless you were willing to swap out Seabrook for a cheaper D.

Hey Everyone, thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. for those that asked, although during the regular season i do need a balance of Forward/Defence/Goalies in my lineup, for the 20 I protect that is not necessary. I can draft to fill that gap.
Our pool also works off of the actual Salary, NOT Cap Hit. not sure if anyone was going of that but just in case.

@bobby4ever, thought of dropping Seabrook for cheaper also but I think he's too good to drop, despite the salary.

    Thanks again all,

Agree with Bobby - you got some slim pickings. I would dump Setoguchi and go with a guy short and pick up a cheap[ free agent, wouldn't waste any money on him.
Can you go with less protections, then pick up free agents?
I would also keep Anisimov ahead of Raymond.

well in the case of not having to protect 20 players then i would cut Raymond , Setoguchi and Sarich and you will have a little over 6 mil going into the draft, (which includes the 1 mil mentioned in my other post) good luck!
