I work at an Engineering School (I train new techs heading into the fleet) so my desk has two monitors. One side for work and one side for "play".
For those of you that do your computing at a desk, I'm curious if the majority of people are "two-screen" folk now.
I'm a bit behind on technology, but added my 2nd monitor/screen at home & at work within the last year.
I can't go back.
So many advantages to having two full-screens up.
Engineering Software Screen / AutoCad Drafting Screen
Email Screen / Dobber Surfing
Gathering Statistics Internet Surf Screens / Excel Spreadsheet Screen
Draft-Board Screen / Research Screen {man... remember when you'd have to minimize/maximize and toggle/shuffle open programs/sites...}
OMG... two monitors... so good.
I need a third!
Is everybody doing the 2-Monitor thing... or are many still on 1-Monitor?
Or three?
What say you, gurus of ye desktop computers?

Two monitors -- and couldn't imagine going back to one. In fact, I find it incredibly challenging to work on my laptop these days, at least efficiently (when I have to, I'll often by the guy with the laptop and the Ipad going ... looks odd as hell depending on where I am, but what can you do).

Generally speaking, I like minimum 2 monitors at any desk PC. Funny thing is, at home I use my laptop exclusively which is obviously one screen. But at a desk I cannot work properly without two. Weird, but it is what it is.

I should be using two, but I'm rocking one Wacom Cintiq monitor. I'm limited to the small office in my basement, and it would just require too much hassle to make two or more monitors work.
I work from home about 1/2 the time with the other 1/2 being at client's homes. I could not imagine going back to only having one screen open. There are so many times when I need information from 2 different sources that it is so much quicker and easier to run the 2 screens. My basic set up is the work I am doing on the right screen and then email/music stream/etc on the left screen.
minimum two at all times. even when i used three i found it hard to switch back to two for a while. not having to cycle through two tabs/programs is a blessing.
Everyone at our company gets two 22 inch monitors by default though some folks prefer the single screen, I enjoy the extra space

At work it's one laptop mounted on a base that has 2 monitors (so 3 screens total - laptop + 2). At home it's 2, but since it's more of a gaming computer (all my Microsoft Office stuff is on my 1 screened laptop), I game on 1, sometimes have other stuff (like WinAmp for music or a VOIP program like skype or Mumble) on the second.
It's ridiculous how little of a difference you think it would make before having one, and how near irreplacable it is after you get it. At work, I have corporate e-mail on one, then usually one or two spreadsheets/docs open on the other two screens in busy times. In audit, I have to check between two docs back and forth a lot, so the added screens help a lot.
Also, I learned of a nifty program called Clover that adds tab functionality (like Google Chrome, for example) to Windows Explorer (the "My Computer" or "Documents" screen that comes up all the time. Looks real nifty, and even allows for bookmarks!

Two at work and one at home. Love having two screens, but don't really need two at home. More than two? Seriously? Multi-tasking more than two screens (actively anyway) is like trying to drive while on your phone while changing your navigation system. Just can't be done safely.
