Pretty hard to tell when we don't know Johansen's new contract.

Kane does have a great contract though, and even if he never becomes that PPG multi-cat stud , what he provides right now and for his salary his very good in a cap league. I'd take Kane but if Johansens signs a Max Pacioretty like contract (4.5M until 2018-19) then I'd go with RJ.

the size of the gap between management and RJ is stupid insane. He wants 7mill they want to give him 2-3mill. He is not worth 7mill, but 2-3mill he’s a steal for now. Until the contract details come out (bridge or long term) I’d go with Kane. Points per dollar Kane is what you want for the future.

This is what i'm gambling on right now.

Kane does have a great contract, as long as he is producing consistently at a 65+ pace, and as of yet he isn't doing that. He does have the upside to be a consistent 70+ player.

Johansen has already outscored Kane's best year, is the BJs top line center, plays on an up and coming team, but his contract could be anywhere from $3.5-4m (CLBs apparent offer) and $7m (Johansen's camp's apparent offer)

the way i see it, if Johansen's contract comes in at or below Kane's current cap hit (5.25m), the Johansen is the pick... but if the contract is $6.25-7m, then kane is the choice.

I would call RJs contract 6 million a year and then do your calculations from there points only it makes it harder to pick Kane but he does have the upside and could be traded

unfortunately, not really... if i wait and he signs for 2 years at anything under 5, he'll be next to impossible to get... but if he signs for 6+, he may cost me a bit less to get him, but his value against the cap won't be as good

i had offered kane and a 2015 1st round pick (i have 2, and both project to be in the 2nd half of the first round) for johansen, knowing that i was gambling on the team getting him signed to a cap friendly bridge contract... i've now retracted my offer, as i did some additional research into the contract situation, as well as had a better look at winnipeg's situation with kane... the guy that i was dealing with had only asked about kane's cap hit, and had not accepted or countered with any other deals, so i felt OK with retracting the original offer
