I think they'll give him that look at training camp and notice he's not 2005 Simon Gagne. They'll likely notice that he's a much slower version with a shot that is much less effective than it once was. If that's the case, he's not in the top six. And who wants an aging, slow, ex-scoring forward playing in their bottom six? My guess is that he retires after camp. If he ACTUALLY makes the team, it's likely a third line role, but I just don't see it.

Most likely they will end up promoting from within but nothing wrong with giving someone a chance to show his stuff.
