    Default Now or Later?

    Hey guys,

Question is for team in sig.

I am competitive this year but want to keep an eye to the future as well. In year 2 of our 28 team pts only keeper, I have the opportunity to move Jason Spezza for Elias Lindholm + late pick. Before you ridicule me for asking something so stupid, you should know that this is the last year I can keep Spezza, as when players are 32 in our league they become UFA's and go to auction, where their salaries increase exponentially.

My question is, knowing that I'm going for it for the next two years, do I move Spezza and his one year left on my team for a guy who won't start hitting his stride for another couple of years but who will make me stronger in the future?

    All responses appreciated!

Agreed. Moving him for a younger stud is definitely something to consider, but I wouldn't move him for this.

If you're going to go for it then go for it, that means you need to put the best team forward and that includes Spezza for now.
If you find near the trade deadline that your team isn't as good as you thought and you probably can't win then you flip Spezza for the best return you can get, but for now ride him out and try to win it

Keep 9 players, I would look at moving Spezza for Lindholm. If you only get to keep Spezza for 1 more year only then I would look at trading him.
See if there are any other takers on him. When is the late pick ? first round? See if they would up the ante - as there is lots of hype for Spezza in Dallas. Get his first rounder?
Lindholm has some good upside and looking at your team you should be able to compete for the next 4-5 years depending on your drafting. You can look at trading crosby for help before he expires ( should be a good haul)

I think everyone should "go for it" each year. That being said, I think there's a hype right now around Spezza that might disappoint some people, so he's a sell high candidate for me, especially if you can't keep him past this year. Make sure everyone knows he's available, and I think you should be able to get better offers for him.
