Default Nugent-Hopkins vs Mason vs Hertl vs Voracek

In a keeper league, allowed to keep 5 players, $200 total budget. Locks are Seguin ($7), Price ($9), Karlsson($8), and Eberle ($7). Having a hard time picking the 5th - leaning towards Nugent-Hopkins ($7), but he is injury prone, only a C, and not living up to expectations so far. Steve Mason ($3) is also strongly considered as goaltenders are hard to find and Philly should be solid enough that he gets decent numbers. Also available are Voracek ($6) and Hertl ($3) - Voracek is likely safe for 65 points as long as he is paired with Giroux, I think Hertl is too unproven to really be considered.

    What do you think? Thanks

    Welcome to the forums!

Goalie value has a lot to do with supply/demand.
How many teams in your league?
How many goalies does each team roster? start?
What is scoring/categories for skaters & goalies?

We can make a better decision once we see these items, but I'd have to say I like either S.Mason or Voracek (before RNH).
But it is very difficult to compare a goalie to a forward until we knowing scoring & roster allocation.

All of P7's questions are valid. I love RNH but I would also keep Voracek over him. Vora will do 70+, not 65. I'm not as sold on Mason as other people.

Plus, I think you could probably get RNH back for $7 or less based on his stats last season. Seguin + Price + Karlsson for 12% of your total budget seems like a massive steal, but I've never done a hockey auction so maybe that's market value.

12 teams x 2G = 24 goalies "in play", though most teams are probably rostering 2G.

It's hard to tell in auction leagues where "demand" will be created.
If there area lot of goalies kept, then the other teams may battle it out for the best goalies... they also might concede and each take a crap goalie for $1.
Very difficult to know, I think only you (OP) would have a feeling for what will shake out with goalie re-auction value.

$200 auction budget is a lot though... and I'd think people would overbid on goalies, being a scarcer position.

    I'll go with Mason ($3), I guess.

Not knowing youe league settings my best guess would be to keep Mason (cheap and he's the #1, if goalies are that hard to come by he's probably well worth the price), or Voracek (best player for this year that you listed)

I would keep both Voracek and Mason for the reasons outlined by vitun and drop Eberle who doesn't seem like particularly good value compared to others at that price

    This is pretty good advice.

If this is an option, then I probably do this. Mason is almost a must-keep at that price and being a starter, just hope for the best with him. And Voracek over Eberle only saves you a buck, and they're close in value, but I do like Voracek more. Especially with +/- and PPP as categories.

In a keeper I'm holding onto RNH no matter what.

I would attempt to re-draft Voracek. Voraceks points could range from anywhere between 40 to 80 as far as I'm concerned. I really like him but RNH has way more upside. RNH will hit PPG within the next couple years IMO. He will be more valuable moving forward than Voracek by a lot. (At least in my league, this would be the case.)
