Default Burmistrov to return after next season?

Found this small nugget on Illegal Curve:

    Hockey writer for Sports.ru Igor Eronko tweeted the following;

“Alexander Burmistrov to Prosports.ru: ‘I will almost certainly return to #NHL; next summer will be defining’ #Jets #KHL”

Not sure if that would mean with the Jets, or if he's hoping/expecting a trade, but either way that's at least a tiny bit encouraging for the franchise. The notion of losing an asset is disappointing, even if he doesn't develop into more than a third liner at the NHL level.

Of course, there's plenty of time for him to change his mind. At least he's got a contract in place, so contract negotiations shouldn't be an issue.

So do you think he holds any fantasy value?

Posted that tweet already in another Burmistrov thread

Viktor Tikhonov is another name to keep an eye on with regards to making comeback to NA next summer. Coyotes already tried to get him come back this summer but he was still under a contract in KHL. His contract however ends after this season and he will also reach UFA status in NHL next summer. Tikhonov has developed as a player in KHL over the past few seasons and especially in this years WC he put pretty dominant performance. If you can stash him in your farm in a deeper league, it's worth a shot.

Does anyone know how Burmistrov has done in Russia? Not just numbers, but overall performance.

Crap. I have been working to get Burmistrov the past week in a certain league. I hope the owner doesn't see this news...

Actually he's RFA so he needs a new contract. He didn't pull 'a radulov' on his way to KHL.

Oh wow, you're right! It's been so long (feels like forever already, somehow) I forgot! :P And sorry, Carcillo, I didn't catch where you posted this earlier.

Burmistrov will likely hold some fantasy value, but I think he'd have a hard time earning a second line center spot on the Jets, or any other team, so that value may be limited. He'll have some work to do if and when he comes back. Hopefully he's learned a lot in Russia.

Somewhat interested in him in one of my deeper leagues, but it's a cap league, and I worry that he'd need something in the 3M range to come over, which won't exactly be a bargain.

Jets could have a seriously deep top 9 by next year.

    Desperately need better goaltending though.

Oscar Moller is very much the same as Tikhonov in that sense

Personally I would let someone else in my league take on the risk of owning him. He didn't do much in the NHL and didn't do anything spectacular in the KHL last year either (37 pts in 54 games). That would work out to be around 56 pts over 82 games, but thats in the KHL. Meh. Radulov came back and gave the NHL another shot too and we all know how that worked out.

I am not pursuing him in any of my leagues.

He's only been gone for one year

The issue with Moller is that he signed a two year deal to KHL. Not sure if he has an out clause next summer. And Kings will still own his RFA rights next summer so whereas Tikhonov can sign with any NHL team next summer, Moller's options would basically be limited to Kings. Moller will need to play out his KHL deal to get UFA status in NHL. Probably his best option so we may need to wait Moller until 2016.

Well he didn't dominate there but he did lead his team in scoring, was in top-25 in league scoring and top-10 in assists. That ain't too bad. That's actually better what Zuccarello did in KHL and despite low KHL stats his return to NHL has been a success.

But yeah, I'm not going to pursue him either in any of my leagues. But if he can be had for pretty much free, then worth a shot if you have room to stash him in the farm team.

Yeah, I'm aware. It seriously feels like a long time, though.

If he can be had super cheap he might be worth a tiny gamble. His value is pretty near rock bottom right now. I'm interested to see what he does in his second year over there.

Of course, if he explores coming back expecting to be a 2C in the NHL (especially if he finds further success in the KHL this coming season), this could all go south very quickly.

That's my feeling on him too, let someone else sweat it, I'd rather target someone promising someone less flashy with more certainty to play in the NHL
