Default It’s Not Political, but More Canadians Are Lefties

This came up recently in a thread on defensemen pairing and handedness

According to sales figures from stick manufacturers, a majority of Canadian hockey players shoot left-handed, and a majority of American players shoot right-handed. No reason is known for this disparity, which cuts across all age groups and has persisted for decades.

I am not a southpaw, but I am a Canadian who shoots left-handed in hockey and thinks politically left of centre.

But are you otherwise right-handed or left-handed? I am curious about how many right-handed people shoot left.

Canadian. Right-handed, but shoot left in hockey. Golf and bat right-handed, although I can switch hit somewhat in baseball, just not for power (or what passes for power at my age now!).

    Canadian.

    Right handed.

Shoot left. Bat left. Golf left.

Anything hand eye coordination is left handed for me, eg) tossing and flipping a bottle in the air and catching it.

I play goalie, but I know listening to my coaches talking to the other players when I was younger righties shoot left-handed so your strong hand is at the top of the stick....you get more whip and power on your shots that way. That was what he always said, at least.

I know when I'm using a forward stick, I do have a better wrist shot shooting left handed. But everything else I'm completely useless....stick handling, slap shot, whatever. So when I do skate out I use a righty stick, it just feels more natural. I'm right handed and American, btw.

I am also a goalie in ice hockey but I prefer to play out when playing ball hockey (something I play a lot). I am right handed but shoot left when I am playing out. I golf and swing a bat as a rightie though.

Oh ya, and I am Canadian.

    Shoots right.

My father, a left-handed, made me turn to his sides when I was little so he could pass down his golf clubs!
