The OP has a bold prediction.
But only asked the rest of us for a prediction. (need not be bold... his pick is the bold one.)

I'm being a nit-picker here... because I know you well, my nit-picking friend.
    True.

I decided to go bold since I assumed (ooh that bad word) it's what he wanted to get different names.

But you can nitpick all you want.

A bold pick would be anybody from the 2014 draft class.. Because, frankly, only Ekblad will more then likely play the entire season in the NHL.. If he isn't concussed that is!!

    Rational pick: Drouin
Wacky pick: Johnny "Hockey" Gaudreau - there's opportunity to make the team, he has a strong camp, he makes it difficult to send him down and he just scores.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Love the pick but he isn't eligible unfortunately as he played over 26 NHL games last year.

    Ah Shucks!

I'm sticking with Buffalo and going with Sam Reinhart.

i think drouin is as good a shoe-in as there has ever been for the calder, as it already looks like he'll play with stamkos. kuznetsov is gonna play on the second line, not with ovie and backstrom, and factor in the trotz factor. reinhart doesn't have much to play with in buffalo, and i also don't think he gets line minutes just yet.
anything can happen, but this isn't the year for a "bold prediction" - this race is CLEARLY drouin's to lose, and he won't.
and regarding ekblad, i suspect the panthers don't give him too much ice time too quickly due to his concussion. i know it was a minor one, but he's a rookie and why mess up his development when they're still not ready to contend anyways (for a playoffs spot, maybe, for the cup, a few years away).
teravainen will start in the minors and probably be there for most of the season. gibson is gonna be in a time-share. i suspect come playoff time he takes over full time, but not before then, so he won't play nearly enough to get calder consideration.

How do you know that Drouin will play with STamkos, or that Kuznetsov will not play on Ovie/Backstrom's line? If there's anything we learned about rookies, even the most highly touted ones, over the years, it's that it's almost impossible to predict how much playing time they'll get or who their linemates will be, as compared to forecasting vets or even 2nd year players. It's often a complete crapshoot.

That said, my vote is Drouin but I think it could easily be Gibson or Allen.

    That makes two of us!

But if you really, really want some bold picks, I'd say John Merrill and Michael Hutchinson, after stealing Pavelec's job! Bam!
