Overall a good list. I personally wouldn't put Tavares so high, even with his fantastic contract, as he's not a good enough all round player to be there. Tough to criticize too much since the list is just for spittballing and generating discussion.

So no trivia of Joe DiPienta this time around?

That's exactly the top-25 we were able to track in the previous thread so no surprises there. As it should be. Anyone in the top-25 are easily top-50 players.

Anyways the full list is good summer reading from Angus as usual.

LOL! That's all I had after reading the first few lines of his report once I saw Cole Harbour. Everyone forgets poor Joe DiPenta. I thought I would throw him some love. You are just bitter because you didn't know the answer.

Did someone else already throw up the top 25 in another thread? I didn't see it.

    I'll start...

With a huge cap hit, I am surprised Kane is ranked that far above Giroux, Getzlaf, Benn and Seguin. But I guess with him having two Cups, that has a fair bit of sway in these rankings. Without those and considering he is not an ultra-strong defensive type of player, I would put him in the mix with the guys above.

I tend to like the top 25 better than I liked 25-50, but I still think there is a little TOO much bias towards age. Mack is great but I think there is about 1 person that considers him a top 10 NHL player today.

Big Ev's list with three changes both me and SeaDawg made to it. That's the same top-25 Angus had.

I like this list, though I would agree that Toews/Kane would need to be shifted down when the new contracts kick in.
    Thanks for the link.

I was thinking this same thing while reading it a few minutes ago. The top 25 probably has a clearer distinction than the 26-50 crowd so I'll buy that, you could probably make a decent argument for an additional 20-25 guys to fill the 26-50 spots. I do feel that Mack is too high, I have no problem with him in the top 25 but feel he should be closer to the bottom than the top, perhaps in the 15-20 range. Other than that, good list.

Which also seems to run contrary to Tavares being so high BECAUSE of cap hit. Interesting.

One of the biggest things I pushed when giving Angus my two cents on this list was the disposability of wingers versus centers/defensemen. So I tend to think that some of the wingers on this list are too high. Specifically looking at Milan Lucic, Max Pacioretty, Evander Kane, Taylor Hall, Jamie Benn, and Patrick Kane. I mean, the latter three of those guys are ranked ahead of Claude Giroux but I'm telling you that Philly hangs up if any of those three are offered for Giroux. The closest one is Kane but even then, I think Philly holds put. It's kind of how Bill Simmons does his trade value columns. He likes to ask if one player is offered for another, "who hangs up?" I guess I just have a tough time believing that Giroux isn't in the top 10 again.

Bergeron is another guy I was pushing to see higher.

Pumped to see Backes in the top 50 though. I pushed hard for that.

If you have 7 minutes, watch this video and you won't be disappointed. He certainly isn't far off from being a top 10 if he isn't already.

Also, the link is giving me an error... "Error establishing database connection" Is that happening to anybody else?
