Default Mikael Granlund for my Duncan Keith?

    Pure points only keeper league

My take: I get the Granlund hype and I do think he is legit. Also, I am looking to add core fwds to build around while I still contend. BUT Keith is still a legit top 5-10 D in my league and I think I need him more at this point than Granlund. Goal heavy league also doesn't add to Granlund's value (nor Keith's actually) and his injury history is a little scary. 70 pt assist heavy max upside from my perspective.

Im inclined to stand pat, but there have been a few GM's that seem to think this is a solid offer for Keith, so I am open to the notion that I am undervaluing Granlund and perhaps overvaluing Keith

Interested in some objective takes on this offer...

    Thanks!

I'd pull the trigger on that. I had Keith in a points only league for the past 3 years and sold high on him during last season and haven't looked back. Too many years of 40pt production or so. Granlund's going to be be taking over for the oft injured Koivu. If I was offered this I'd take it.

I like Keith's game but I don't trust him much for points. We see the spikes in Olympic years (69 & 61), mid 40's the rest of the time since his come up. Career avg of 0.54 ppg, equates to 44 points over 82 games. Just turned 31, which isn't the end of the world, but it's worth noting. I'm taking Granlund in this one.

I'm a HUGE Granlund fan, but I think you've got the right stance on this.

Keith is a 40-70 point defenceman - he's an absolute STUD at D.

Granlund could be a 70 point player, but as you said, he'd have to play all 82 games to do that, and we haven't seen him do that yet.

    I'd stand pat on Keith.

Where you start 6 defensemen, and the categories favour them a bit too, then I would stand pat and keep Keith. If the other GM is really interested in Keith, get him to throw in an above average d-man too before you consider doing this deal.

That is what I have asked for, but he won't.

Very tough call here, but I have to side with the "keep Keith" side of the spectrum given that you start 6D of 15 forwards (relatively D-heavy league), assuming your team is contending now. If your team is rebuilding, then take Granlund.

You just don't have the depth at D to give up Keith at the moment, if you're a contender. That plus the fact that Granlund is going to be an assist-heavy guy, as you pointed out (and you have enough A-focused forwards already), and the injury risk that comes with him.

Everyone is scoffing at mid 40s points for a dman, which is Keith's low water mark? In a 20-team league a 45 pt defenseman is gold, and while Keith is not a goal-heavy dman, he can still net you 10 goals in a good year.

Plus, Keith is pretty darn durable for a Dman who plays such heavy minutes, a huge consideration in a 20-team league and especially in your case since, next to Hedman, he's your top guy.

Granlund's a guy worth getting, but Keith is a very steep price to pay in points-only with positions. I think if I were in your shoes I'd try to dangle Oshie and Josi for Granlund + something.
    The League:
11-teams, pts-only, no positional restrictions, top 12/20 count.
    1 in-season UFA (24+y/o), 3 round entry draft.
Unlimited (24+y/o) off-season UFAs after the entry draft.

    The Show:
Crosby, Malkin, Kopitar, Eberle, Couture, Krejci, Subban, Simmonds, Hedman, Jokinen, Kesler, Barrie, Johansson

    The Farm:
MacKinnon, Toffoli, Bjugstad, Spooner, Zucker, Bjorkstrand, Jaskin

Thanks for the suggestion, but believe me I have tried everything under the sun and it comes down to this final offer. Re Josi, I would prefer him to Keith actually, since I see him as a 15-35-50 upside guy who will likely hit it.

The guide ain't exactly helping I'm afraid. It has Granlund pegged for 12 goals and 51 points, but then comments that Granlund can easily keep up his 21 pts in 25 game pace to close the year (if he remains healthy). So a ppg or a 50pt guy?? Also, Keith is projected for a studly 55 points, but then there is an advisement not to target him or expect similar numbers as last year and lookout for a dramatic drop off. Nothing against the guide of course, but illustrates the dilemma. This could go either way.

Still on the fence, and I may kick myself either way. Just not loving Granlund if 50-55 points is his "breakout year" as is projected in the guide

Is the guaranteed really that good though? Mid 40's? 60 sure isn't guaranteed.

This, but if assists and goals were the same point value then yes, but that are not so no.

Mid 40s dman > 50 pt center IMO

Minnesota does not play a run and gun style, block shots and puck possession is their game. To me he could get more.
