Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason sustained an injury to his finger and will be sidelined from on-ice training for two weeks, the team said Thursday.

"Steve Mason broke his right pinky finger playing hockey in Oakville, Ontario on Sunday, July 27," general manager Ron Hextall said in a statement. "Mason will miss approximately two weeks of on-ice training but will continue with his off-ice training."

Mason was 33-18-7 in his first full season with the Flyers, with a 2.50 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

He had an upper-body injury prior to the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs but returned to go 2-2 with a 1.97 GAA and .939 save percentage in a seven-game loss to the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference First Round.

Steve Mason: Sorry boss I promise to never do it again.
    Ron Hextall: Pinky swear?

Ayy no big deal, 2 weeks is nothing.

I'm rooting for Mason to keep up his strong play. Always been a fan.

He's out 2 weeks so it's probably a non-factor regardless. Quick played with some sort of wrist injury (not sure if it was broken or what) that takes 12 weeks to recover and still won a cup and almost a Conn Smythe. It's just one little finger!

Fair enough point. So Mason's stock doesn't drop because of this I suppose. He's not high on my draft list anyways, despite what he has done lately. Burned by him in the past and am really gunshy of the guy now.

far more concerned with the defensive core skating in front of him. If it includes Michael Del Turnover it could be a long ugly season.
Then again maybe MDZ finally puts it all together
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.

That's his catching hand though, 2 weeks seems awfully short for that.

I broke my middle and distal phalanges on my pinky finger. The 2 bones healed well but they are forever getting dislocated again during MMA training or any menial sport or task. There are no fixes for that. No idea what part or what kind of break Mason has.

Read this quote from Roenick recently, he's such a douche haha

"I like Steve Mason, but I don’t think [he] is the answer to winning a Stanley Cup," the former Flyer said in a radio interview. "I think you need an upper echelon defenseman, I think you need an upper echelon goaltender. Both, the Flyers do not have."

Not that I disagree with him but he always says these kind of things publicly, it's like no one ever taught him that he doesn't have to say every single thing he thinks lol

Haha I actually play in this league every summer. Mason isn't the only guy to play in it. Casey Cizikas plays in it as well. But it's pretty funny seeing this pop up in the Score and being like "hey that's the league I play in".

We're playing his team in the finals right now actually haha. He was on the bench coaching them :P
