    1- Crosby
    2- Toews
    3- Malkin
    4- Karlsson
    5- Quick

The on that people will be all up in arms over is my inclusion of Quick. As much as his numbers aren't always the best, there's something to be said for a goalie that always seems to make that big save when you need it. I could easily include 10 other players in this list, but I do think something needs to be said for Quick's ability to make the timely save and in the playoffs, that's huge.
Straight Points keeper league. Keep 5 Forwards,3 defence,1 goalie.

F: Nicklas Backstrom, Joe Thornton, Henrik Zetterberg, Zach Parise, Logan Couture

D: Erik Karlsson, Alex Pietrangelo, Oliver Ekman-Larsson

    G: Sergei Bobrovsky

I can definitely see your point on Quick. I just think he benefits from his team and I don't think I can put him ahead of Rask or Price at this point. Other goalies I could put him ahead of.

Even as a Kings fan I put Price > Quick.
The goalie thing kind of goes back to the thread from a few months ago about the 5 most talented goalies. I think it was Price, Quick, Lundqvist, Rask and someone else.

    Crosby, Toews, Malkin, Stamkos, Tavares.

It pains me not to include any Bruins but Rask and Bergeron are just slightly outside of this bubble. Kopitar, Doughty and Karlsson are all worthy nominees too.

Datsyuk tops this list 5 years ago... but can't factor him into it at his age anymore.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

The OP said to choose players you would build a team around. I would build a team around Bergeron. There is no better two-way forward playing the game today.

I added my list earlier, but I'm going to change it somewhat.

If I were building a team today, I would probably go:

    Crosby
    MacKinnon
    Tavares
    Stamkos
    Karlsson

I'm looking at this from a brand new team though. Except for Crosby, I'd want a player that would still be in his 20s when the team around him is competitive. Also, I'd want guys that could put butts in the seats, sell jerseys, etc.

Writer of the weekly Top 10 column.

12-team Keeper pool, straight points for forwards & dmen. Goalies get: 2 points per win, 3 per shutout, 1 point per assist & 1 point per shootout loss.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

Many would argue the same of Karlsson Ev. It's a subjective list.

Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares (Cap hit is so LOW!), Weber, and the 5th is very subjective… I’m going to say Suter. But depending on how I felt that day Rask, Price, Giroux, Seguin, Doughty, Kopitar, Karlsson, MacKinnon could all be there.

I literally just started a fantasy draft team in NHL14 and got Giroux at 14. Karlsson, Seguin, Price, Kessel I would say are 7-15th overall guys.

With Giroux, Weber, Suter, Rask and such their contracts are so high right now, but they’re on contract for a long time. I like this because I don’t have to worry about resigning them, or in NHL14 I’d always forget to trade them at the deadline if they had 1 yr left.

I was asked by my daughter last night who the best players were outside of Crosby, so I have left him off my list:
    1) Toews
    2) Doughty
    3) Stamkos
    4) Kopitar
    5) Benn (to put a different name up)

My sense is that building around goalies doesn't work all that well. It has been said before that the best defense is a good offense..........plus a franchise d-man (Doughty, Weber).

I am a firm believer that 1C is the most important roster spot on an NHL team. 1D is 2nd or 3rd. Given that if I could grab 1 guy I'm looking for a 1C.

    Top 6:
    1. Crosby
    2. Stamkos
    3. Tavares
    4. Malkin
    5. Giroux
    6. Toews

Also for what's it worth it I got 3 players it would go:
    1. Crosby
    2. Toews
    3. Weber
12 team H-2-H 1 year league, daily roster changes, 3 goalie start minimum/week
    2xC, 2xRW, 2xLW, 4xD, 3xUtil, 2xG, 5 Bench
G, A, P, PIM, PPP, SHP, GWG, SOG, Hits, W, SV%, GAA, SVs
    C: C. Keller, C. Mittelstadt, B. Nelson, R. Strome,
    LW: K. Connor, B. Tkachuk, J. Gaudreau, J. Marchessault, E. Rodrigues, A. Lafreniere
    RW: K. Fiala, J. Bratt, T. Jeannot V. Arvidsson
    D: R. Josi, J. Trouba, E. Gustafsson,
    G: L. Thompson, F. Gustavsson, V. Vanecek
