    Default Morgan Rielly

Should I even be thinking of trading this guy.

Im in a cap league and his $1.7m for 2 years is amazing.

Is he the best young D around, I hear comparisons to Trouba a lot.

I know Trouba is an excellent player.

Who are some comparisons for Rielly.

If you trade him now just before he's about to explode, you won't be able to capitalize fully on his value.

This, a guy in my league said Rielly's makeup career path is as close to Karlsson as he's seen. I'm not expecting 65+ but in 2015ish I want the 45-50 to start rolling in.

I believe Bob McKenzie compared his skating to Paul Coffey. I rarely ever hear Bobby compare a player to a great because you know he's conservative, but he put that out there which means a lot to me.

And Pierre McGuire thought he was the smartest player in the 2012 draft. He's good. Real good.

So your saying don't trade him.

Wow. I thought he was good but Karlsson comparisons. That's impressive.

I had no idea Rielly was this highly thought of.

Sounds like someone I might want to acquire...

I remember when he fell to me at #23 in the 2012 draft. I had traded my first rounder and figured he would go in the first twelve picks. Then when he kept falling and falling I was getting more excited every pick that went, hoping that he might fall to me.

Edit: Went back to our league forum and found my post where I drafted him. "I have no idea how this guy is still available, but Halmstad drafts Toronto defenseman Morgan Rielly at goddamn 23rd." LOL!

Reminds me of last year - Nyquist fell to the 5th fricking round! Of course I took him!

I still remember Brian Burke saying this kid was #1 on their draft board. A lot of people laughed but maybe ole Burkie wasn't as crazy as everything thought on that day.

As far as the OP's question, I would keep this kid over Trouba in a points only league. In the article I just linked, they compared him to Kris Letang back when he was drafted. I think thats a good comparison even today (minus the injuries of course). Personally I would keep him but I also don't believe in "untouchables" in fantasy hockey. Everyone has a price and if someone wants to pay you what you think he's worth, then I would move him. Just don't trade him to trade him. I would say in a couple more years, you will regret it.

Well this thread certainly supports my "who do I keep at D" thread. I think the key to Rielly is patience. Can't let this arousal for him fade just because he may not hit his stride this year. I made that mistake with Karlsson...and traded him to start his trophy year. OUCH! I eventually reacquired him but paid the price. Won't do the same to this kid! Stash and wait!

Yes I've heard Karlsson 2.0 "light" on these boards, but I think that is quite high praise. I too see another Letang or Keith but with a stronger/more explosive stride. Have him in my salary cap league and will be keeping him. Looking to acquire him in my points only league too.
Hockey Pools? Too many to mention. Points only, salary cap and dynasty.

He isn't Karlsson. Not even worth discussing. Doesn't have nearly the same skill.

Letang is a better comparison but less physical.

I don’t think people expected Karlsson to be Karlsson after his 1st yr (I still don’t think people expect Karlsson to be Karlsson). They did expect him to be fast, agile, swift, have great vision, above good shot, and have an offensive mindset (just not to the level he has achieved). Rielly is the same, he’s a great skater, good vision (for a 1st yr), accurate shot (not quite the fastest yet), and he is always thinking counter attack. I think coming into the league Karlsson is a good comparison, but you gotta say Karlsson Light, or “little Karlsson”.

DISSCLAIMER BECAUSE I KNOW I’LL BE RIPPED APART. Rielly has the same skills that people see in Karlsson, just not to the same degree right now.

Rielly is less physical than Letang? Got confused there.
