Default Would you make this deal in a salary cap league?

    Was offered the following deal:

My Fleury ( 5.75M this year then UFA)

    For

His Howard ( 6M this year but already signed at 5.5M, 5.5M, 5M and 4.5M for the following 4 years)

Is the difference between the two too big? I personnaly think Pittsburgh D isn't as strong as it was without Niskanen and Orpik which could cost them a few more games next season....and I think MAF will command a big increase as he becomes UFA.....

What are your thoughts on this one?

    Thanks

Kinda of a tough one. I like MAF clearly better than Howard for regular season. Im down on Howard this year, I just think Detroit has not gotten better defensively and he struggled last year. At times, he looked awful. MAF is a stud in the regular season.

I do think MAF will get paid next year. But, overall, Id say MAF is gonna be better than Howard by a big enough margin to roll the dice. I would do it.

I like Fleury a lot more here. Your league counts wins, OT losses and shutouts, so you don't need to worry about his GAA or save percentage. Fleury will pile up the wins (no goalie has more regular season wins in the last five years).

He's the team's #1 goalies. He's the better choice, especially since your team seems good enough to win this year.

I would stay far away from that one... Seems like this is an extension of your other post. I wouldn't do this deal, feel Mrazek is a viable alternative to Detroit sooner than you would think. No one will give you value on Howard going forward and he definitely had a poor season last year as well. Keep Fleury for a better offer

hell no. fleury will not be getting a monster raise, the pens are already cash strapped, and trust me, the kid knows he will be bryzgalov'd if he leaves the pens. only way he leaves pittsburgh is if he is traded or pens let him walk. even at 6.5 i'd take him over howard, chances are he signs closer to 6M though.

I agree with you, Fleury already makes too much money, and he's not a great goalie especially, he just plays on a good team.

My feeling is that right now it is Flery > Howard but not by much, but when Fleury is getting paid 7 mil it's going to tip strongly towards Howard in terms of cap value

I stil think keeping Fleury is the right way to go here. I don't see him getting much of a raise and the Penguins are going to be right in the mix to rack up the wins yet again this season with such a crap Eastern Conference.
