And Loup at $1mill honestly is a steal IMO. I was never comfortable with him coming on the mound last season but I'm down to give him another shot. The "advanced stats" suggest that he was better than he looked. Which I'm hoping is right because the seeing eye test was brutal with him.
Using a roster spot on this guy is a waste.. Even if they are only paying him a dollar, its the roster spot I am more concerned with..

    I also wouldn't mind Gallardo..

With Jays not having a MRP that’s a Lefty, they were almost handcuffed into keeping Loup, but meh.

The lower this contract is for Donaldson, the lower his next yrs arbitration case is. Worse that can happen is the Jays pay Donaldson what he wants. As long as he’s not a drama queen over this, it’s a fine situation to be in.

Just thinking about Loup, you need a 2nd LH-RP in the BP, and Cecil is really good, but he’s gone above the “situational Lefty pitcher” now. He’s a guy where you trust to put out in a shutdown inning in the 7th or 8th. Loup is a guy where you need the 1 out in between the starter and the back end guys. We need a LHRP to fit that bill, and like it or not, Loup is what we’re stuck with.

Can't believe they're going to arb with the reigning MVP over a rounding error.... what a ****ing joke.

I've been doing deals long enough to know that this kind of pettiness in negotiations leave a real sour taste in people's mouths and has a detrimental impact on loyalty.

They may save a couple hundred thousand today, but the long-term cost will be much greater.

I'm pretty sure Donaldson will be 33/34 when he's able to make that move. I'd be ok with the Jays not dishing out cash for the sizeable contract he's sure to sign.

Finally Donaldson gets his new deal. Its about time.

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/ml...439682?cmp=rss

Josh Donaldson's salary arbitration hearing with the Toronto Blue Jays on Feb. 15 has apparently been cancelled.

That's because the 2015 American League MVP reportedly has agreed to a two-year contract worth close to $29 million US.

Donaldson, who made $4.3 million last season after losing in arbitration, was seeking $11.8 million this time around while the Blue Jays were offering 11.35 million.

The 30-year-old hit .297 in 158 games with 41 home runs, an AL-leading 123 runs batted in and 122 runs in his first season with Toronto.

He’s FA eligible in 2019. So this brings him to 2018, with 1 yr left at arbitration eligible. I like all the love that Lowry and Derozan gave him, as well as Pillar and Stroman. Lots of love around the guy.

Smart deal. Gives them one more year to control him before he can test the FA waters. I also wouldn't wanna lavish the 7 yr contract he will get at 34 so this gives the Jays an MVP to continue on this run and see what happens with JD Joey and EE.

The thing that bothers me about the whole negotiation is how the Jays come off for future free agents and their perspective of Toronto (as if they didnt have enough problems luring potential FA's here before). If they are nickle and diming the reigning MVP, how does that look when it comes to negotiating with others who AREN'T MVP caliber players. While we may have finalized Donaldson for two more years, I wonder how much these silly negotiations over $475K will affect the decisions of others. Shapiro may have made a bigger mistake than he realizes but simply not nailing it shut instead of looking like a bit of a fool over a small amount of money, in the bigger picture of things.

Arrieta, who’s younger, a pitcher, a now Cy Young winner, who just came off historically the best 2nd half of a season ever by a pitcher got “nickled and dimed” too. in the end, the jays gave him a 3mill/yr raise.

Gallardo doesn't worry me to much. He is a depth guy now more then anything. His stuff has been diminishing every year. Would be a nice pick up for the Jays depth wise but doesn't worry me having to face him that much.

If the Jays lose both EE and Joey Bats, because management wants to cut back payroll, then its going to be another 20 years until we make the playoffs again.. If those two are gone, I'm sorry but Josh Donaldson will not be putting up those huge numbers.. Yes they are both older, but we need to show the rest of the league that we want to win..

I have major doubts about the new president of the Jays..
