God damn, its never an easy 1-2-3 with Osuna but he usually finds a way to get the save.

Scary stuff, nice sweep for the Jays. Big 4 game series coming up against the Yankees, chance to get to .500

Well done. Can't take the foot off the gas now though...
Could you say the reason why they were able to stay together and not get too down on themselves was because of Gibbons?

    DRAFT DAY:

    22. Toronto Blue Jays: SS Logan Warmoth, University of North Carolina
Callis: When I was talking to scouts last summer about the best players in the Cape Cod League -- a showcase circuit for college players -- Warmoth's name came up a few times as a sleeper. But he's not a sleeper any longer. In a Draft thin on shortstops at the college level, he was clearly the best, showing advanced hitting skills and potential average tools otherwise across the board

    28. Toronto Blue Jays (Compensation for Edwin Encarnacion, who signed with the Indians. Cleveland forfeited its first-round pick): RHP Nate Pearson, College of Central Florida
Callis: Pearson has the best fastball in the college ranks this year, and wowed scouts by hitting 102 mph in a recent bullpen workout. His secondary pitches are works in progress, but he can get to the big leagues quickly if deployed as a reliever. He's got the frame and the fastball to make a difference in the late innings.

Nate Pearson was projected to go from 18-22nd. Solid pick if they sign him. Though he is committed to Louisiana State University and there is debate about whether he would fit better as a starter or reliever, Pearson has the tools to be a top arm for Toronto.

I have and always will defend Gibbons on this board.

I remember reading an article back when Gibbons was extended that was saying exactly what I've been saying all along - except this time it was coming out of Russell Martin's mouth:

"The guys love him," said Martin. "He?s easy to work with.

"He keeps the guys level-headed. He knows how to work with the different egos on this team and he does a fantastic job of that. He?s almost a father figure to us."

I like him with a veteran group of hitters. He's patient and that's what they need. Managing pitchers tho is not really his forte. People love to hate him, but never give him credit when the team does well

Compensation for Cleveland signing Edwin. Toronto qualify offered him, he declined, and signed with another team. It was implemented for a way for big names to stay in small markets. If JB signed somewhere else, Toronto would get another draft pick.

Some rules, you need to be on the team the whole yr (So Toronto didn't get this option with Price)
Can't be on a player who's already be QO before (so JB would be lost to FA for nothing if he signs to another team this winter)
That's all of my limited knowledge on this.

    Solid knowledge at that!

And ya I believe there was also compensation for Fowler to StL and Desmond to Colorado.

The team who signs the player loses their first round draft pick, unless they are slated to have a pick in top ten. If that is the case, that pick is “protected” and the team forfeits their next pick.

If a team signs multiple free agents who had been extended qualifying offers, the signing team loses subsequent picks. So if you had the 15th pick in the draft and sign two qualifying offer free agents, you would lose your first round pick and your second round pick the following year.

Toronto has to convince him to play for them and not go to Louisiana tho.

How does it work with respect to contract and rights?

If the Jays were to sign him and he chose to go to Louisiana anyway do they still retain his rights?

So if he signs with the Jays he gets roughly 2.3mill. Hard for a 21yr old to pass up who shot up the rankings in the final few weeks based on a 102mph fastball thrown in front of a ton of scouts. If he chooses to go to LSU he goes for 1yr I think and reenters the draft. Toronto would get some compensation for not signing him I think also.

If a team doesn't sign a first or second round pick, they will get to pick at the same slot plus one the following year. For example, if the team with the #5 pick does not sign that player, they would have the #6 pick the following year.
